I'm 15 and have RSD/CRPS, my spinal cord stimulator is not working well as of right now which has caused my pain to become a lot worse than normal. I do not have any pain meds to take. Suggestions to help with my horrible pain?

My parents do know I'm in pain, I've been through this for about 2 years now and pretty much they try to do what they can, but many times they just don't know what to tell me to do to help with the pain.

Obviously, you need to get in touch with your doctor to get yoru stimulator working better and to get a prescription for pain medication in case this happens again (or in case the stimulator doesn't help enough by itself). But it sounds like this is something you're dealing with RIGHT NOW, and that the trip to the doctor is something you can't do immediately.

So, until you can see your doctor, you might try distracting yourself as much as possible. Studies have shown that focusing on pain actually makes it more intense, and that focuses on something ELSE can make the pain abate. I know it can be really hard to focus on anything BUT the pain when you are suffering, but if you can get yourself to relax a little bit, you might be able to concentrate on a movie or TV show or a book? Or you could try calling a friend to get sucked into a good, long conversation?

Hang in there and if the pain gets a lot worse, get your parents to take you to the emergency room to get a prescription for medication to get you through until your stimulator can be fixed. Suffering from pain is incredibly hard on your body -- it causes a great deal of stress that can be hard on your heart, weaken your immune system, and just generally wear your body out. There's no reason for you to be suffering like this.

Hang in there, okay? And if you haven't told your parents that you're in this much pain right now, I hope you'll do that as soon as possible so they can help you?

When I forget my control or I loose it and can not turn mine up because of this when I get mind blowing pain, this works wonderfully well.

Lay on your back. Put your legs up on a chair and lay your arms behind your head. It tunes the stimualtor right into the excact spot without jolting you or causing any other problems.

It works I have used it many times when I really needed that extra power without the extra discomfort of having the system turned up high.

I suggested this to another stim patient who had uncontrollable pain and he was able to go lay down and sleep with his pain controlled.

It works by placing presure against the lead focusing the power more on the site you need.

You should really have some pain meds for a 'just in case' situation like this. You don't have to use them. But it helps to know that they are there if needed. Your Doctor would be more than happy to prescribe you something.
Also get the programer to try a bit of reprograming to get the excact area you need. If he/she is not willing, as some are, to spend up to an hour getting it perfect, ask the Company to give you a new programer who will make time. It will only work if correctly programed.
But has your stim feeling suddenly changed? Or is your pain just too strong? It's important.
If the stim has changed your need to see your Doctor ASAP as your lead has moved. If it's the pain being too strong you may very well need reprograming.

I will give you the address to my story on

just in case you are interested.

I have had my stim for 2 years now and was able to get off of all my pain meds because of this wonderful device and became an Ambassador for the company.

Go try it and good luck.

where are your parents? If you have that much pain, they should be helping you deal with it.
