Works does have a Resume wizard which walks you through the process of creating a Resume. Works has had this, and other autocontent wizards for many years.

you could try Open Office suite at openoffice.org.
It will open, edit and save documents in doc format.
For a standalone word product, try AbiWord. It's free and friendly to doc format.
