I think you should! Blind cats and dogs, especially ones who were born blind,or went blind at a young age, make very nice pets. They just have to learn the layout of the house, and then they're usually fine. And,you never know, the calico just may become a "seeing eye cat." A friend of mine has a blind horse that lives down the road from her. Most people would have a blind horse put down, but not this person. He's put a bell on the halter of the horse's companion,a smaller horse, and the blind horse follows the sound of the bell to find her way around! She's perfectly happy! Isn't that wonderful? And if the little kitten loved your touch, maybe he 's meant for you! I think you should at least give it a try,as not many people will want him and he may spend months or even years in a shelter cage.

I think if you really want to and have another cat that is willing to be a 'guide' and care for the blind kitten and if you are willing to take on the special care needs of the kitten by all means you should adopt it. I personally don't feel that an animals disabilities should get in the way of being adopted by a loving home. Of course only if the person is not willing to take the time out to learn what needs the pet might have but you sound like you are on a good start so I would adopt the kitten definitely

First off the world would be a much better place with more people like you.

I work for a vet and we see many animals that are blind, they all are able to get around just find, especially if they have a friend to hang out with.

If you do decide to adopt him, be prepared, the first few days or weeks could be very difficult for him, he will have to find out where things are the hard way. I would definitely start off keeping him in a small room in the house then gradually increasing his roaming space.

If you have a vet you trust, see if the vet at the shelter can give you some of the medical records to take to your vet, then you can see if you will have the time and money to properly care for the little guy.

Good luck he sounds like a winner

I would adopt him. I adopted two cats from a shelter. One lost her one eye and the other lost her tail. They are both very affectionate, especially my one-eyed bandit. Both of them stole my heart. I also have a male whom I got as a kitten. He and the bandit play and are affectionate with each other.

Unfortunately, the tailless tabby was abused while the bandit was in foster care with the shelter's director, although she was also abused. The tabby was in the shelter for a year and a half before I got her. The tabby was an adult before she got to the shelter. The bandit was a kitten when she was fostered and when I got her.

Neither cat shows any signs of her physical disability.

I believe the blind cat will be fine around the house. The other senses will make up for his disability. Years ago, I saw a blind horse who actually was a jumper and trained to do this, if I remember correctly, after he or she was blinded. Amazing!

I believe that your calico will take care of him. Animals sense these things.

I am sure that you and your cats will be happy. Please do not let the cat's disability stand in the way of adoption.

I wanted to adopt a cat who was blind as well however I have another cat and I didn't know if they would get along. Your cat should be fine. make sure if you leave him home alone, to put him in a room that doesn't have anything that could possibly pose a threat to him. I was also told that animals who have disabilities make the best pets because they are so grateful to have a home and someone who cares for them.

Blind pets will usually learn to adapt to their lack of sight and will do ok. If you are willing to take on all of the responsibilities of having a pet with a disability and understand that it may take some special effort on your part, then go for it! Very sweet blind and deaf pets are often ignored by people and many never end up being adopted. If you are willing to open your heart and your home to a pet with special needs, then please do!

You're awesome! I don't think alot of people would give it a chance! I would but I haven't come accross a kitten being put up for adoption lately. I don't live by an SPCA or anything.

Animals can adapt very quickly and it will learn to use its other senses to adapt to your home, should you decide to adopt him. You sound like you are in love, I would go get the little thing and give it a loving home. You are an angel.

I think he would do just fine around your house. It will take him a little time to get familiar with his surroundings but he will. The fact that he loved to be touched tells me he will be a wonderful companion. Bless your heart and good luck. I hope you let us know what you decide to do.

well his other senses would certainly be heightend that is what they say if you are blind you hear better etc... and if you think your other cat will take to it and look out for it than go for it!!! he needs to be adopted by someone who isnt bothered by the fact he has no eyes, and thats you!!! he needs to be loved and handled poor guy is probably dying for affection!! bless your heart for considering him and i hope you do adopt him!!! im sure he will be fine he will follow your other cat by smell and sound or lead himself by smell he will even probably be able to follow you by the sound of your voice!!!! good luck to you and the little kitten!!!!
