TACA has never had a fatal event, you can check their safety record as well as any other airline on this website:

Contrary to the comment below, TACA definitely HAS had a fatal accident. One needs to go back only as far as 2008. They crashed an Airbus A320 on flight 319, killing people in the aircraft and on the ground. See the details here:

We flew TACA nonstop from Miami to San Jose, CR, and had no problems. They even gave us more of a snack than American would have. The only thing to remember is that TACA and LACSA are the same. We were looking for TACA in MIA and couldn't find it, but someone told us to go to the LACSA counter and there they were, with no TACA sign. Everyone is just supposed to know. We just barely made it in time to board. Clear that up before you go and you'll have no probs.

I flew TACA to costa rica and I would not recomend it. Horrible custermer service! As far as being safe I cant answer that.
