I was standing in line at the gas station and when it came my turn at the front, this girl walks in who was obviously friends with the cashier because she stopped at the counter to talk to her. The cashier went ahead and waited on her friend, and the friend took forever getting cigarettes, lottery tickets, paying for her gas. It was my turn, there wasn't anyone behind me, she should have waited on me, not her friend who came in. I just stood there and didn't say anything, but it did kind of tick me off.

I do believe that was unfair and rude to you. In the future, you should be somewhat assertive in a polite way. You could say: Excuse me, I believe I was here before you. And then look the cashier straight in the eye and say: I'd like to pay now. Oftentimes it just takes a bit of assertiveness mixed with politeness to indicate to someone when they are stepping over your boundaries.

Yes it was rude and very poor customer service. Which I am sure the gas station owner would be thrilled to know about. Next time it happens make note of the time. Go back the next day and speak with a manager. They can look up the incident on their video camera and probably catch that clerk doing a lot more than just being rude.

This world may be getting more and more rude but us nice guys can't give up to the bullies. I hate bullies and have decided not to be bullied any more. Just take a look at Virginia Tech, bullies caused that.

Yes, this just happended to me the other day, I always thought Id have the guts to say something, like excuss me,but I was here before you! But me being the nice woman who I am I stood back and took it, and thats ok, this is who I am, Im not a trashey broad who is gonna tell another person off for a petty reason such as who was 1st in line, just remember we have more class then these people, but also we must know when to draw the line, I wont have a person walk all over me,but at the same time, Im not gonna look like a fool, its a tough world out there and like I said, we need to know the difference between being a woman and being a person who is a witch!

This goes beyond rude, and is definitely not what her boss would find acceptable customer service either. It's easier to step aside and let these things happen, but really, once you begin speaking up in a situation where you know you are right, it gets easier each time. There's no need to ever be confrontational, either, just state the facts...you'll probably get an eye rolling response, or a "whatever"...but so what. And don't forget a comment to the manager, either in person or by phone, too. The best part about speaking up is that you get it over and get on with your day, rather than stewing about it.

Yes, this was rude of the friend and clerk to do such a thing. I'm learning everyday that kindness is becoming a thing of the past....I think pretty soon a human with a good heart will be on the endangered species list. Keep your chin up, people with some class still exist....it will be harder to find but we're still out there. "A diamond in the rough"

You had a right to be ticked off. You were there first and should have been waited on first. You should have asked to speak to the manager. It is still not to late--phone and asked to speak to him. Maybe it will keep her from doing the same rude thing to someone else.

When this happens to me I just say "Excuse me, but I believe I was next" and step up in front of the counter, the friend will be so shocked that someone realized their rudeness, they will be speechless.

I'd hate that. Something similar just happened to me today, in that range of line. I was irritated, and just left. If I were you, i'd go back, and fill out a comment card. Gas stations usually have those. Hope your day goes better! :]

Welcome to the 21st century. Where manners have gone out the window. I know exactly what you mean. How about standing next in line at the post office while the P.O clerk and a customer (Friend of his) share vacation stories and vacation pictures while you wait.

It WAS rude, however , YOU did the right thing by being patient and humbly waiting. I would have observed this behavior and considered YOU to be the better person for having behaved the way YOU did. Good job.
