Throw baking soda over the yard?

Lol. I don't know if this would work, but it's cheap and can't hurt. I have found baking soda to be very effective in eliminating all kinds of smells. Baking soda is known for deodorizing and definitely wouldn't hurt your kids or dogs. I don't know about where you live, but where I am you can get two boxes for $1 at the 99 cents store.

I wasn't sure what it would do for your lawn, but it seems like only good there too. It can eliminate fleas from your lawn as well as help treat urine spots: http://www.bakingsodabook.co.uk/baking_soda_book_outside_your_home_page_3.shtml

ADD: Well, I'd assumed that you had done the obvious and cleaned the dog poop. If you haven't, that's definitely the first step.

Wow, that's a new one on me. Aside from cleaning up the pet waste, hosing down the yard good, and regularly bathing your pet, maybe light a bunch of citronella candles and put them around the area where your guests will be. I doubt it would take the smell away, but it should mask it enough to where you could all be outside for awhile.

But I wonder if maybe you could just light some charcoal (if you have an outdoor fireplace/fire pit or something like that you could move to the center of the yard) and let it burn for awhile, while you're all outside anyway so you can keep an eye on it. Charcoal is a natural odor absorber anyway, so maybe this could work?

Or I suppose you could always just move the grill to the opposite side of the house and go from there.

Good Luck.

Get a sprinkler and turn it on for a little while each day. It will help wash away the pee and in most cases the dog will love to play in the water.

Clean up the waste, use a hose and wash and soak the yard down.

Usually the guests are drunk like skunks already....so they rarely notice anything unusual. Serve double vodkas with gin.
