Starting pay in retail for non certified techs is normally less than $10 per hour. Certified techs start at about $1 higher. Nationally, the average salary is about $13 per hour. You rarely hear about a tech being paid more than $15 per hour in retail. You can't normally get a job in hospital pharmacies unless you are certified and have experience. In hospital pharmacies, you might hear about a handful of techs being paid $20 per hour.

It depends on where you work and the state you're in. Try to get certified first! If you start and are not certified, then when you become certified you will more then likely not get a raise til you are due for one(like yearly or so). But one of the only differences in certified and not, is there is no end to your raises, whereas if youre not certified, the employer can refuse your yearly raise if youre getting 'paid enough'. But whatever you do, do NOT go to one of those schools that offer pharmacy technician. They try to tell you the only way you can get a job as a tech is through them and you can only get certified through them - which is NOT true. Go to www.ptcb.org and all you have to do is take a test to become certified. You dont need any kind of school.

Depending the state you live in, you can work as a Pharmacy Tech without being certified. But when you do pass the state board test, you WILL get paid much more.

I think that a certified one only makes int he high 20's, low 30s. I did not even know you could do it without being certified. If you can, I would think it would be pretty much a retail hourly job. In other words, not much.
