I had this same problem for the first week and a half of having them... there really isn't anything to do. I just started thinking of things that I could eat whole without chewing, ie the meat from an Arby's Roast Beef, peaches, jello, soup, etc.

The cheek problem will go away on its own about two and a half weeks in once your cheeks stretch farther out to accommodate the braces without getting torn.

Also a little bit of forewarning... the first two wire changes will hurt like this also, but it will only last a day or two with them.

For some people, it just takes time to get used to braces. I didn't have that problem, maybe just a little swore, but no problems. It should be ok soon. And about the brackets? I'm not sure. I was going to suggest wax, but you said that that doesn't work. Are you sure the orthodontist can't do anything? They normally try to help you, after all.

Eat something cold! Have a Popsicle (don't bite it) or eat ice cream. It numbs up your mouth. You probably don't have very good pain tolerance in your mouth. I have the same problem every time I get my braces tightened. Next time take advil (or whatever pain medicine you take) before going to your orthodontists. It will go away soon.
Hang in there... :-)
