Nobel Quran Sura 4 verse 89

"They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another). So take not Auliyâ' (protectors or friends) from them, till they emigrate in the Way of Allâh (to Muhammad ). But if they turn back (from Islâm), take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliyâ' (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them"

I basically disagree with this verse. There is nothing wrong with being equal on this earth with people of other faith, religion or race. Ultimately, it is God who will judge us, not man. Why then take no friends or protectors from people of other faiths? Then it goes on to say kill those who reject islam? Is this a correct translation? Is there anyone who knows arabic that can verify this translation?

asdas, I found what you said extremely ignorant and hateful, a total inaccurate account of God. If you read the early biography of Muhammad, Sirat Rasuallah by Ibn Ishaq, you will realized that none of what you said was true. The Pagan Arabs, Jews and neighboring tribespeople were not hypocrites, they were just non-muslim. When Muhammad presented Islam and the concept of the oneness of God, to them, they all rejected it with differing reasons. The Pagans could not agree because they had a tradition of worshipping many Gods and each tribe has its own God. The Jews on the other hand agreed but rejected Muhammad as God's prophet. By saying that God gave orders for muslims to have courage to kill people is totally delusional, only Satan does that. God can give you courage to be steadfast, to be unrelenting in faith, to be kind, to love others but NEVER to hate and kill other people.

You said, "Qur'an is a book of history". I find that incorrect and misleading. The Quran is the holy word of God that transcends time and space. It existed before our creation and will continue to exist after we are long gone. It is however accurate that the Quran was revealed to us through the angel jibrel to Muhammad at different timepoints but that doesn't mean that the Quran is only applicable in those context. The Quran is not a book of history. The hadiths on the other hand are collections of historical accounts of Muhammad and his companions, but the Quran is not.

Asalam Alaikum.

You need to understand that the Qur'an is a book of history. Please look at the context of the verse. Part of Surah An Nisa is about the Battle of Uhud and that is what the verse is saying. You can read more about the Battle of Uhud by clicking on this link...http://www.muhammad.net/bio/uhud.htm
The setback (with the archers at that hill) enabled the pagan Arabs, the neighboring Jews, and the hypocrites in Medina to threaten the Muslims from all sides. Muslims during Prophet Muhammad's (pace be upon him) time were heavily persecuted. Almighty Allah gave the instructions to the Muslims to be courageous. In order to fight against these persecutions, Almighty Allah gave them the directions to fight back and to strike back really hard. Muslims were beaten to death and tortured. In Islam, Muslims believe not to kill anyone unless in self defense. The Muslims were hesitent to fight back. However, Almighty Allah said if you have to fight back to defend yourself and your family, then do so. I also have questions similar to yours, however, if you read about the time period when the Surah was revealed, one will be able to understand completely. Once again, the Qur'an is also a history book so it is important to learn the background of the Surahs.

I hope I cleared up your misconception.

Thank you for your time.

Salam.

"They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become same (like them).

Look at verse 88. This ayah (88-89) refer to the Hypocrites . They are unbeliever but they pretend to be.
