My acquaintance seemed a little down. I asked him what was wrong and he spilled out with his "Gigantic Secret". He says he is dying. He has 6 kidneys. He had two, the two duplicated and 2 more grew after that. On top of that, he has cysts of blood in the kidneys. He said he would get surgery. I asked him when and he said after football season. He didn't want to go without this season for he would be in a wheelchair for the whole time. I thought it was ridiculous! Football is all about hitting eachother, wouldn't it be VERY unsafe for him? In football, you need a physical, a football coach wouldn't let him play with him and his condition would he/she? I asked him and he said that they weren't going to let him but then suddenly did.

Is this even possible?

I have never heard of anyone have six kidneys. I think he is trying to jerk your chain for sympathy. Since it is such an unusual condition ask him if you can see his x-rays.

I would have to say that he is misunderstanding something. He can't duplicate his kidneys...doctors would love this! Imagine how that would help people that need a kidney! He could have 6 cysts ON his kidney. Then again, he would be in severe pain and wouldn't even be able to practice football, let alone play it! Dying? Doubt it.
If he's not misunderstanding something, then he's lying!

I don't think he's telling you the truth -- or else you misunderstood him. Kidneys don't divide -- you can't just grow four more of them like that. Maybe he meant the CYSTS had multipled, not the kidneys themselves? Kidney cysts are also almost always totally benign. Half of people over the age of 50 have at least one kidney cyst, in fact, and they usually don't feel any pain from them at all. However, if your friend has multiple cysts, he may have polycystic kidney disease, which can ultimately lead to kidney failure (which could ultimately lead to death, of course). But to me, it sounds to me like he's either not telling you the truth, or else he isn't telling you it quite right (or you're mixing up what he says later, perhaps).

In any case, it's really up to him and his doctor to decide about the football season. Just keep being supportive and urge him to do whatever his doctor tells him is best.

Um, no.

The kidney duplication thing is pretty creative, the dying (and WHY is he dying?) is oh-so-very Romeo & Juliet-ish, but he missed out on the one implausibility: the cysts in his half-dozen kidneys (I'm laughing out loud...) don't appear to be producing any particular feelings in this guy. Believe me, one kidney cyst would have him on his knees crying. But 6? And playing football? I think not.

Its not possible to have 6 kidneys, if that were so then other organs would be blocked. I think he means he has 6 cysts growing on the one kidney.

It would be an oddity ! Some people do have extra or accessory organs, more then one spleen, and extra kidney, but 6 ? Of course you can have a cyst or more on any organ.

umm, kidney's don't "duplicate" if they did, then if you lost a kidney, it would just grow back... This isn't possible... this guy is a total liar, lol.
