If the jars are hot and the water cold, or vice versa, that will cause them to break. Also, if they have any hairline cracks to begin with, that will also cause it.
Inspect the jars for cracks before filling them, and then I heat mine in the dishwasher. Then I put the food into the jars hot and use hot (but not boiling) water.

There are a few reasons, the jars could be old, the water could be too hot (better to put the jars in cool water and bring them to a boil or to prewarm the bottles before putting them in the hot water), you are putting them in to swiftly - they should be lowered slowly.

Are you using regular canning jars??
The jars and contents should be hot when you put them in the water. Water in canner should be hot but not boiling!! As each jar is filled set it into the hot canning water. If more water is needed in canner once filled add more hot water to cover.
Water in canner should come to a gentle but steady boil. Do not over process. Keep a close eye on the canning time.

your probably putting the jars in cold. try putting the jars in cold water then heat them up.

The water may be too hot. Use pyrex canning jars if possible (though I'm not sure if they exist)

If they are cold then thats why, try warming them in warm water, or just run warm water from the tap, just make sure you dry them before putting the fruit/ what ever it is your canning
