Asalam alaikum, I am proud to hear that most of my sisters in Islam dont wear make up. Indeed it is agreed upon unamimously that Anything that attracts attention to the face is not permitted. Now, on the same subject more or less, who wears high heeled shoes? Of course u dont have to answer, but lets remember the reason high heeled shoes are not permissible. I pray Allah(swt) guides my sisters and brothers to know that these are things forbidden to us with good reason, and its really not up to us to try and use Our logic to decide. It reminds me somewhat of a hadith from Ali (ra) that its a good thing it was decreed to wipe the top of the socks, for surely man would think to wipe the bottom....Allah (swt) knows best.

High heeled shoes; There are regarded as Not permissible for generally 3 reasons. 1. It is a tradition of the Jews predating Islam and is considered imitating them. 2. It of course makes a woman taller ,which mis-represents herself. 3. When wearing them it causes a woman to walk noticiably differently, accentuating the swaying of the hips, and the buttocks have to move up and down, thus causing attraction. 4. It also makes a certain noise, this noise in and of itself attracts attention, 'claack claack, claack'... Thumbs down me alll you want, this is what the scholars say and have said for 1400+ years... SubhanAllah, do we really think the wives of the companions, would wear high heels, with make up???

Hardly ever. I think it's actually better to go without it more often. Then if you put it on for an event or something it's like WOW. On the other hand, if you wear it ALL the time (a significant amount) and you take it off people will be shocked by how you look. They might even be disgusted when in reality you don't look bad they are just used to a fake perception of you.

My husband actually prefers me without a lot of make up on at home too. He thinks it looks so fake because nobody really looks that way - it's all a fantasy that doesn't exist naturally.

But make-up at home can still be fun. :)

Nope, neither outside nor inside home! Thank God hubby hates it as much as I do, and tells me I look beautiful just the way I am. I hate that feeling of wearing a mask, a fake face, pretending to be someone you really aren't. I never could understand how on earth those girls could stand all those layers on their faces. Sometimes you feel their face will crack if they smile or frown!

I never used to put it while going out, just used to if going to a wedding or something. Now I don't even do that either. I am, however, guilty as charged only if going to a studio to have my pic taken. No foundation or eyeshadow or any of that gooey stuff though, just very light touches to prevent me from looking like something from the night of the living dead! hehehehe

Edit:
@ Ruby, ya amar ilka3b il3aly is said to be forbidden by some since it makes you walk in a way ... you know what I mean! hehehe Depends on how high , I think 2 or 3 cm is OK because it does not make you titmayly while walking like those really high heels. Anyway, its sheer torture for the back and feet why would you want to subject yourself to that?!! I always wear flats like a school kid and drive my mom crazy hehehe, she thinks it's inappropriate for me to wear them to work. I tell her she is not the one standing up for three hours in a row while hollering at the top of her lungs! nyahahahaa (to qoute Rana!) My comfort is above all else and to hell with fashion. Rana can tell you I don't need them anyway, hehehe

well...yes... I do, but very light make up. Somehow, I can never go outside without apply kohl and lip gloss or else I'll feel something is missing. But I do not use any heavy make up, foundation, eyeliner, blush, or such :) my husband doesn't like it when I put make up when going out :)

Adam- really? I didn't know high heels were forbidden in Islam. I'm sooo used to high heels :(

Farah- U don't need heels :P and u know why hehe ;) well I did let go of heels cuz of pregnancy, and if I quit them for preg, then sure I can quit them for Allah. But they sure will be missed heeeeheeee

I wear make-up sometimes but not always. If it's a special occasion I'm much more likely to wear it but if I'm just going out to the grocery store I may not wear any at all. I do not believe that there is anything wrong with wearing it and I'd like to see a Quranic verse specifically stating it being haram. The prophet Mohamed was aware of the benefits of wearing khol. Perhaps the argument for most people is in whether or not the make up is natural or chemical? I have to say to Adam that I do not agree with you. You say "Indeed it is agreed upon unamimously that Anything that attracts attention to the face is not permitted. Agreed on unanimously by whom? Obviously not every muslim since so many muslimahs wear it. Not be ever muslim man since many enjoy the look. Also if anything that attracts attention to the face is not permitted then what should one do if they have a noticeable birthmark on their cheek? Surely that would attract attention. In this case would then be required to wear make up so as to cover this and not draw attention to the face? What about those of us who suffer from delicate or blemished skin (problems that occur without using make-up)? Do not those blemishes draw attention to the face as well? I'm very fair skined and my skin get flush whenever I speak, walk, do anything strenuous, eat, drink, etc... almost anything I do can cause a rather noticable flush. For me that is very uncomfortable to have people constantly looking at that and asking if I'm alright. Asking if I'm sick or embarassed. So I prefer to wear a nice foundation to even out my skin tone and hide the flushing. This makes me less self conscious and better able to interact with my fellow human beings. As a muslimah who wears hijab my face is the only thing noticable on my entire being so what else would people notice? It's framed like a picture you don't think that draws attention to the face if it's the only thing you can see??? If someone feels happy without wearing make-up that's great. Good for you. But it's haram to look down on those that do wear it. It does not make me less of a Muslim for wearing it. It does not make the quality of my heart, soul, or even my prayers less. And as for high heeled shoes that is another matter which I would argue. If your dressed modestly no one will see anything sexy about your leg (which is what the high heeled shoe generally does) so what does it matter if you wear it. Also, you may not be aware of this but people with flat feet often find a high heeled shoe more comfortable than other shoes. Being flat footed myself I cannot stand to wear flats. They really hurt my feet so a slight heel or high heel is preferred as it aleviates some of the tension and pressure on my arch (or lack of) and redirects it to the balls of the feet which is much more tolerable. Back to make up though... Wearing heavy make up on a daily basis to try and look model sexy is something I would consider wrong but medium to light make up meant to make yourslef more presentable and increase your confidence just doesn't seem to be a problem to me. Also, make-up has some benefits in that it simultaneously provides spf protection from the sun which is harmful to the skin. So one can look nice and protect themself from skin cancer at the same time. Daily use a sunscreen can cause just as many problems (like clogged pores and acne) as make-up does but unfortunately it provides none of the benifits. Doctors reccomend you wear some sort of skin protection everyday and reapply several times a day as neccessary so as I see it make-up is beneficial to me since it also doesn't run in my eyes as much it's made to stay put unlike sunscreen which constantly runs into and stings my eyes.

I don't feel quite dressed without putting on at least a little makeup. I use khol and mascara on my eyes, use tinted moisturizer and lip gloss every day even if I am working out in the countryside or desert areas.I don't wear heavy face makeup except for night and social events.
I certainly don't consider it is unIslamic to feel good about yourself.
Really I think it is up to the individual to decide what is right for them. Much like the wearing of hijab.

i do wear makeup but only when i go to a wedding or a gathering and only because it is only women at these events, but when i go to school or anywhere else, no, not wearing making is the same to me as wearing the hijab, we wear the hijab and loose clothing to not attract attention or show our womanly figure, so i think muslimat shouldn't wear makeup in public only around other women or for their husbands...does this make sense, i hope u all get what i am trying to say...

you are still too young to wear make up , i dont mean eyeshadow and blusher lipstick and that stuff , i mean foundation and powder and things which are used mainly to hide defects rather than make you look different
yes i wear foundation and very light lip gloss which resembles my lips color , not to work but when i go out with my husband and i find no harm as i dont change my face by getting purple lips ,orange cheeks and brown eyelids , i just wear light make up which make me look like myself but bit better
