I'm 15 and and I'll be 16 in a month. My father is in jail and I live with my mother. My grandparents are upper-middle class so they help out my mom and buy my siblings and I all our clothes. My grandmother and grandfather make independent incomes and manage their own finances. In the last year my grandmother has bough me braces(5,000), paid for a school trip to Italy (2,000), bought me new furniture for my 16th birthday (2,000.) I only got the furniture, and I'm not having a sweet sixteen party. My bed was broken and I got my old and than only ever furniture set when I was four. Just for the record I get pretty decent grades so it's not like I'm lazy. I am involved in a lot of clubs and I never go out and never get into trouble. I do want to get a job because I feel like I'm sponging off of my mom or grandparents whenever I ask them for money to get lunch after school. I feel guility whenever someone spends money on me. Whether it's my friends or family. Am I a moocher?

If you want to get a job so you can have your own money, is a good idea, as long as it doesn't affect your school work. School is the most important job you can have at your age. It sets you up for what is ahead of you. I don't think you are a moocher, but someone that has people that care for you, and want to make your life better.

No you are not a moocher. You are lucky to have people who love and support you. You are too young to be worrying over family finances, let the adults worry about that. You sound grateful for what has been given you and I'm sure you grandparents feel you deserve these things and want to do these things for you. Stop worrying and enjoy you teen years.

No your not. You are lucky that you have grandparents who love you and are able to do all these nice things for you.
Just let them know that you love them and appreciate them.
The best way to show this is to spend time with them.Do little things arround the house to help them out when you can.Get a great education so maybe someday you can do nice things for them.
