Anyone know where I can find a good place to learn how to sing, voice lessons, something of the like who are not just after your money?

Well, honestly, where do you live? I take classical voice lessons. DON'T waste your money and time on voice lessons with teachers who just help you sing songs. You need the proper classical training to know how to REALLY sing. Those other lessons are just like paying someone to sing songs on the radio with you. But, if you don't get accepted into the Professional studios, try joining a choir, or chorus, or take voice lessons from those "teach a song" teachers. Or just sing your favorite songs at home, and in a few years or so, come back to the Pros.

Contact your local university music department. Many universities have excellent faculty that you may be able to study with. If they can't give you lessons, they can probably refer you to a graduate student who may be needing the teaching experience for their degree.

You may also want to check with some of the local music organizations or vocal ensembles in your area. Local church choirs might also be another option. Often times, they're excellent resources for good teachers as well. I would also strongly recommend meeting with one of the perpsective teachers before committing to taking lessons with them (or go ahead and take a lesson or two if that's not an option). That way, you can better determine for yourself if you're going to work well with the instructor.

Hope this helps.

I take lessons from a private voice teacher, I met her through a school production, you can usually find voice lessons at community colleges.

Careful with that one -- both my sisters had voice training, but the results were something that sounded "mechanical" (w/o "soul") in both cases. Why, my un-trained voice sounded better. I love to sing (contemporary Christian & traditional hymns), but I don't read music. I have to learn everything by ear. If you already have talent, you can learn more by recording yourself & playing it back to detect problems.

Somewhere local.
Nowhere professional, they definitely are after your money.
I take singing lessons.

Try looking for ads in your newspaper, or if you know anyone in school, including yourself, find out if their music teacher gives private lessons.

I take private singing lessons with my school music teacher and I think she's great.

Hope this helps!

If you can, I would recommend a community college. It's cheaper, and you can get units besides. Plus you might get financial aid.
