I'm starting to think I may want to go with Stilestone or Corian. They seem less problemmatic. What have been your experiences? Thanks in advance to all who take the time to answer and God bless!!

That is the beauty of granite, it doesn't stain. I've had it for 10 years, love the fact that items right from the oven can be placed on it without damage. I also do a lot of craft work at my breakfast bar and have yet to have a chemical, paint, glues or adhesives affect it whatsoever. I have seen some problems with Corian, but most had to do with clients improperly trying to sand off scratches.

Corian is less expensive these days than real stone. Silestone is a new product that is actually quite expensive. I love my granite but it is stone and does require some care but it's not labor intensive. I clean it with granite cleaner or warm soap and water and am careful to not scratch it. It's more resilient than I thought it would be. It needs to be sealed once a year but any stone does. It is my first granite counter so I'm probably being a bit more anal about it but it is showing me that I don't need to be quite as careful as I thought. It makes for a beautiful kitchen and I am so pleased with it. It is reflective so if that is not what you want in your kitchen then you may want to choose the flat look of corian or silestone. I love the shine with my stainless steel appliances. It is quite elegant. Look at all your options with what you are doing in your new space and make the decision. As long as you aren't doing formica or what I call bathroom tile, you can get a great look in your kitchen.

I would suggest granite, the colors are just so rich. It has a very classy, elegant look and many of the colors are very neutral. It adds a sense of depth to counter tops and makes the whole room look bigger. Granite also has a beautiful finish and is easy to keep.

granite has the best resale value and doesnt stain and is easy to clean. The slab granite is better than tile though b/c then things cant get stuck in between. good luck!
