They tell us some elements have half lives millions of years long. This goes against the bible.
Is it scientific nuclear fires burning in those plants or is it the fires of Hell

The whole periodic table thing is an abomination! Who gave mankind the right to figure out God's own secrets? Have you ever actually seen an atom of oxygen, or carbon? Aren't atoms only an arrogant scientific THEORY? If God had wanted us to know such details, He'd have put them in the Bible. This is all Eve's fault. She's the one who listened to that blabbermouth serpent and convinced Adam to taste God's forbidden fruit. Now nothing's sacred. Won't be long before mankind will be curiously pawing through God's own underwear drawer, trying to figure out how to weave string theory into a pair of skives big enough to contain all of God's deepest secrets -- like what happened before the Big Bang, and the whole purpose of human existence.

Edit: I sure hope your question really was satirical, 'cause I took it that way. If not, oops and sorry.....

"Roadrat," If your statistics are fact (and I'm sure they are), it means that only 6% of 83%, or roughly 5% ot the US population comprise the religious radical right (RRR). That number makes me feel much, much better. I may have been "tilting at windmills" for quite a while now, because I falsely imagined at least 40% were RRR. Thank you, thank you! I'll sleep so much better tonight.

It's true that the relative abundances of the various isotopes that are the products of radioactive decay suggest that those decay processes have, in some cases, been proceeding undisturbed for very long periods of time---millions, or even billions of years.

However, the existence of a long half-life is, in itself, is not evidence for an old Universe. The radioactive decay process essentially "resets" itself trillions of times a second. In each of those brief intervals, the nucleus will decay, or it will not---each such interval is independent. If the probability of decay is very small, the isotope will have a long half-life. It's not the decay itself, but the remnant decay products, that indicate a long timescale process.

Q. -- "... Nuclear physicists ... tell us some elements have half lives millions of years long. This goes against the bible."

A. -- The abject ignorance of the lemmings of the RRR Cult... the "Religious" Radical Right... never cease to amaze me.

CLUE: **Actual** Christians have NO problem accepting the fact that the earth is OBVIOUSLY billions of years old -- and that said fact in NO way "goes against the Bible."

OF the 83% of Americans who **profess** Christianity, 94% are actual (and sensible) believers -- and the remaining 6% comprise the PSEUDO-Christian lemmings/dolts of the RRR Cult. People who generally don't understand DIDDLY about proven science.

So, if some of the stars are millions of light years away and you can see their light in a telescope, then it seems that God probably made the world with some age to it. This seems pretty straight forward to me. Or you can ask yourself the age-old question, "What came first the chicken or the egg?"

You are mistaken. Many Christians interpret Genesis in an entirely different way. May I recommend you browse the website of Christian astrophysicist Hugh Ross:

Also, if you want some evidence as to the realities of the fires of hell, please watch this video by cardiologist and researcher Maurice Rawlings:

Short answer: no. Try reading something other than the Bible, once in a while. It'll be quite refreshing for you (and others who are being exposed to your fundie ignorance).

I am amazed that you somehow managed to spell 'physicists' correctly, yet misspelt the word 'plotting'.

Scary when the testimony written by God as the creation itself contradicts the Bible.
No it isn't scary it's puts the man made thing in perspective.

Many will not appreciate your sarcasm.

Considering that nowhere does the Bible say the Earth is 6,000 years old, yes I beleive "the lie".

And all that talk of electrons and protons and such. Have you ever seen one? Has anyone? No! They are just "theoretical", which is science speak for "completely made up so that we can mock god and his creation". The bible is very clear on the story of creation, and on no day does it state "God created the leptons, and it was good"
