I have a 4 month old kitten that never leaves my side when I am home. She is a very affectionate cat and very good around groups of people. I live in an apartment where I don't want to leave the litter or food outside of my bedroom as I have a roomate and it's not his responsibilty to have to deal with those things. I want them out of the way for everyone and my room is the best solution...

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me to keep my cat from going onto my bed, when I am sleeping or otherwise. One reason is that I am losing sleep as she wakes me up almost every night. But the main reason is that she has flared up a breathing problem for me as her dander gets on my bed. Any advise would help...

Thanks.....

Redirection is the best way. Every time your kitten jumps on the bed take the kitten off the bed and say no. You can even take it into another room. However, don't give it food or play with it when you do this as you will be conditioning your kitten to expect that to happen when it jumps on the bed.

Keep at it and do it every time. This will be time consuming but will work with time.

Good luck.

I don't let any of my cats sleep in the room with me because they will always jump on the bed to be with me. I also have a slight allergy to cats and the doctor told me to absolutely not let them sleep with me. My cats have the run of the apartment at night and it's not much of a problem. I have a squirt bottle next to my bed and when they were young I had to open the door and squirt them when they would cry. Now it's only about 6 times a year.

Make sure you wash your bedding every week because the dander will be brought in your bed by you. Also, make sure that you don't use feather pillows or comforter. You may not be allergic to feathers, but they will add to your allergies.

Does the kitten have the run of the house while you are sleeping, or do you keep her in the room with you? If its the latter, which I assume is the case if you have the food and litter in there with you, then you don't have much of a choice. Cats tend to sleep where they want. You might want to provide her with a soft bed to lay on instead. Spay it or dust catnip on it. It should make it irresistible. Keep a water bottle nearby. Every time she gets on the bed with you, squirt her. It may take a little while, but eventually she will learn not to get on your bed.

Good luck since you can't shut her out of your room. My cat will sleep at the foot of my bed until I fall asleep then he sneaks up to the top of the bed and sleeps beside me. Other than shutting him out of my room I have been unable to break him of this. When I do shut my door he sits outside it and scratches at it. The only other suggestion I could make is maybe buy her one of those pet beds maybe she would take to it.

You can get her a bed of her own but even if you get her to sleep in it for a bit, as soon as she thinks you are good and asleep she is going to be right back there with you, lol. I have had cats for over 30 years and they all have taken over my bed. Consider yourself loved.

Awe thats cute! Hmm... maybe you should talk to your roommate and discuss ways to have her locked out of both bedrooms. Maybe you could leave her in the living room.... does she have a bed of her own? Otherwise I'm not sure if you can stop it. Can you buy allergy medication?

Even if you are successful in keeping her off your bed it's not going to help your allergy, as dander is in the air.

It's actually dried saliva that flakes off and attaches to dust in the air. To help with this, rinse your cat once a week with distilled water.

Yeah good luck. Maybe put a fence over your bed. You may need to go to a Dr. and get some allergy medicine for cat allergies.

buy her one of those soft cat beds from a pet store. every time you go into your room with her put her in her bed. if you can cut a small hole in the lining and put in some cat nit, then sew it back up. she will stay in her bed all the time.

My cat doesn't like certain perfumes I wear so when I don't want her on the bed I spray it with the fragrance. Cats also don't like Citrus smells like lemon juice.
