the pain will go away in a couple of days and you do not need pain killers. the pain will come back every time they tight them up. Brush your teeth really, really, really good every time you eat to avoid tooth decay by the time they take your braces off (which it could take a couple of years or longer and if you leave food residues during those 2+ years, you will lose your teeth).

yeah they do hurt......
i've had braces for a year and 2 months now.
umm. i took a dose of tynenol JUST ONCE to ease the pain a bit.. then i got used to it.
at first, the pain is there for about 1 week to 1 and 1/2 weeks.
but as you progress, the pain duration lessens.
for me, i average out to about 3-4 days of pain now. after the adjust, i mean.
good luck and dont forget to floss!

My wife had braces for almost five years. If you have a lot of pain, try over counter medications. It may help. You probably be hurting for three to five days.
Hope this help.

Eating ice cream, milk, etc (anything really cold) can help take the pain away.
They'll probably be sore for the next 3-7 days.

It will hurt for a few days. It will also hurt every time they tighten them. Just take some ibuprofin. Or aspirin. Or whatever. You'll be fine. Braces are annoying, but they are worth it!!!

for a while. take some excedrin or advil.
the pressure will lighten up, but then it will hurt like that for a couple days everytime you get them tightened.
and for the tearing up of the insides of your mouth, be sure to have plenty of wax on hand. it's a mouth saver.

its just for now, you'll get used to it, and the pain will go away. i remember when i got my braces on, if i tapped my teeth, it felt like they were going to fall out of my mouth, they were so sensitive! but i never took pain relievers or anything...all i did was eat soup, like top ramen...HAHAHA. and i lost weight too. lovely.
