I think that overpopulation is one of the biggest and most ignored problems in the world today. I have seen a lot of different opinions on the subject, some people think it is a big problem, some people think it is not a problem at all
What do you think? If you think its not a problem at all, say why. If you do think its a problem, what are some things that you think we should be doing as a society to help get the problem under control?

Overpopulation is also a misunderstood problem. While the developed world has a relatively low birth rate (especially Japan), the undeveloped world has an alarmingly high birthrate (especially Africa)!

The problem is that we've exported medicine to improve infant mortality rates, but we haven't exported birth control or the ethic to use it.

So the result isn't mere overpopulation, but also destabilization -- population booms in the parts of the world that can least afford to sustain it, coupled with population shrinkage in the rich world. That leads to a massive underclass and a tiny overclass, separated by geography.

Not good.

The solution is, export condoms!

It is a problem right now. If it wasn't, there wouldn't be any hungry people. We should try to promote birth control, esp. in 3rd world countries where people don't afford to have even 2 kids but end up having 6. Education should be given to couples about the consequences of having too many kids for the wife, the family and also globally.

Over population is a big problem
Using up all the resources, polluting the planet, destroying habitat for existing animals and plants for what....more walmart shoppers around the globe. What is with this mentality...this planet is here just for us, and to use with no regard to anything but humans. You have to live in the bed you make.

Limit the size of families globally, instead of a cancerous growth all over the globe.

We can't reasonably take care of the people already here...so let's just keep having more...

It think the problem isn't overpopulation per se, it's when the billions of poor raise their standard of living a tiny bit, consuming vast resources.

edit: Yeah, I know that this sounds hypocritical coming from some resource-consuming westerner, but it is a problem that humanity faces.

There's still room to go, just stay off the highways during
rush hours and Holiday Weekends.

Yes it is a problem. But if the government (U.S. gov.) put in laws like China, it would be unconstitutional.

It is a problem.
The solution is more responsible sex.
I don't believe in government forcing couples to only have one child.
You can't force people to do the right thing. They have to CHOOSE to.

Yes! I totally agree with you. It's not ignored. Our right as a mother to give birth is just a sensitive subject, and the government choses not to deal with it. That's why they gave abortion as a choice, to control the population.
