The only place I know of where this idea has been explored at all is the movie "Being John Malkovich". I don't think it's part of any world religion.

don't think so. could cause more than a little confusion in an already confused world. I think that it can only be done with someone(or something)that is already gone. Of course I don't believe in it so I guess it's only conjecture
