This happened to me before but the car never cut back on and this guy said i needed a new distributor so i got another used coil pack and distributor and it worked. so i dont know? help its not nothing like alternator or clogged fuel filter, fuel pump, or anything like that.

Make sure your rotor retaining screw has not loosened. it is quite common in this generation and will cause misfire or no fire.

if the tachometer is dropping out or fluctuating when you're losing power its a sure sign that the igntiion coil is breaking down. The tachometer reports the engine RPM based on a calculation based on the number of times the ignition coil opens the primary circuit to send spark to each spark plug.

The ignition coil is the step transformer that takes battery voltage and steps it up to about 30 kilovolts. when the coil overheats or breaks down you lose the spark. Without spark you lose powe and stall. As you lose spark the tachometer will fluctuate or drop to zero because the signal drops out.

It is very common on the Accords of that vintage to need a new coil. Of course, you'll also want to check the usual tune-up items--distributor cap, wires, rotor and spark plugs but I think you'll find the coil is the cause of your problem.

hope that helps

Check for vacuum leaks- this is not uncommon for Hondas.
Izzit automatic or stick? There's a feedback loop, I think.
