The truck runs great as long as you 2 foot the beast, but won't hold idle with the air on and in gear. Will hold idle fine if either air is off or in park. It seems to be idling around 500-600 rpm which is too low (in gear and air on), but there is no adjustment to speed it up. Any ideas? Keep in mind it is running perfect so don't tell me it needs a tuneup.

Thanks Rich, I'll go right out and buy spark plugs and distributor cap and rotor for my DIESEL. There was a reason I said not to tell me it needed a tune up.

ok its been a while but on the back of the injecton pump there is a low idle speed adjustment screw. the bolt is vertical (up and down...just to clairify...DONT TURN THE HORIZONTAL ONE) when you look at it and has a jam nut on the bottom. a lever sits right against it. loosen the jam nut and turn the bolt counter-clockwise until the idle is 800 in drive with the a/c on or 780 with a manuel. the engine has to be fully warm for this to work. tighten jam nut and recheck. they move sometimes. If that doesnt work maybe spark plugs and wires....cap....rotor...sorry i couldnt help it! LOL. Good luck!

I know it doesnt have the parts i mentioned. i was being sarcastic. didnt mean for you to take it the wrong way.i will be a little more serious from now on...im new to yahoo answers. i looked those adjustments up on alldata by the way so they are as accurate as possible. sorry for the stupid remark.

You are right that it doesn't need a tuneup. First you need to run the computer codes. Even though the check engine light may not be on, there may be a code stored. There will be something there that comes up, replace it and you are done. Oh and to the "DIESEL MECHANIC" above me, a diesel doesn't HAVE wires and plugs OR a distributor cap......you HAVE to be KIDDING ME.

OK. I won't.

However, there should be a idle speed control solenoid to raise the idle a little while the A/C pump is engaged. It may need adjusting, or replaced.
