I was out and about last night and was amazed by how many young girls were walking around wearing damn near nothing. Where are the parents? How did this become okay? I am 23 years old and I love to be fashionable but I am STILL shocked. Please parents-if you're reading this-Get it together.

I am not one for killing a child's "Creativity" as some of you might call it. But these are children who are in DIRE need of some guidance. Let them be creative with a sketchbook or music instrument. The manner of one's dress/grooming is not an area where I feel that parents should have no say. Teach your children to have some class. There are plenty of people who growing up in this standard-less world and still know right from wrong-classy from trashy. There is no excuse. If parents had some standards for their children then maybe they'd have better self images then this.

As a teenager, I am completely used to seeing this kind of thing all over the place. Between high school, malls, the movies, and the beach, you are bound to see at least 10 teenagers and young girls wearing skimpy outfits. It's amazing to think that when I was in elementary school (just 5 years ago), girls my age didn't wear things like that. I'd wear a dress to school everyday, because I wanted to look pretty, but not show every bit of my skin possible. Someone mentioned before that it isn't the parents' fault, but I disagree, because it is the parents buying these clothes that are too small for children in the first place! Looking around high school, it is even worse. What happened to the rule of no showing the 3 B's (butt, belly, boobs). It is insane to think that no one is stopping them, including parents, teachers, school administrators, or any one else who has authority over them. I can say that not all girls wear clothing that doesn't cover them up (that is if they were raised in an appropriate manner where clothing like that is not allowed), but the majority of young girls do indeed wear inappropriate outfits in public.

I'm with you and I'm glad that at such a young age you are able to notice these things in young girls. I don't think a lot of the teens you've seens parents are likely to respond.
But as a parent of a gradeschooler I can't believe how many tank-tops, halters, belly-shirts and mini-skirts are out there for even girls as young as 6 years old. I just can't believe there is a market for those things.
Can you believe we had to order a 1 piece bathing suit for our 6 year old daughter over the internet. There were only bikinis in the area for 6 YEAR OLDS and we as parents refuse to let our daughter wear anything like that before at least 14 years of age (that's an estimate of sexual maturity and self-abstination, not a validation that it's ok to dress like a hooker at 14).
And every skirt is made in a mini and has to be bought supersized and worn with a belt.
I can assure you we are not super-strict parents, we just believe that the body should wait for emotional maturity before being strung on the line like a piece of meat. There is just nothing out there that can be bought these days that isn't revealing. It's hard to deal with.

Yes,well kids can be sneaky too - leaving the house in one outfit and changing into another at a friend's house or in a bathroom stall somewhere.

It's not okay; we can only hope our kids do as we say and not sneak either. Kids are famous for not listening to their parents - what are we supposed to do? Beat the crap out of them?

I'm not there yet with mine. I am hoping that she will listen when it comes her time to go out and be seen as a teen. I plan on watching for what clothes she wants to buy, and I will need to explain to her how she can get herself in trouble if she were to walk around half naked; and I would certainly limit how long she's out.

Most parents are just doing their best sweetie, as they know how. We kind of need the cooperation of our kids too as they get older to behave and dress properly.

I totally agree!! My mom wouldn't let me walk around our house in what some of these young, young girls are wearing, trying to look like the slu*ttyKat Dolls, blechk!
Just look at clothes in stores! It's awful! they won't even have decent clothes by the time my daughter's 10!
But, remember some kids you see wore one thing out of the house, and then changed :) can't say I never did that.....

I like to call them "prosti-tots" - and I couldn't agree with you more. My three girls wouldn't see daylight in some of these clothes, let alone trapse around in the mall.

I coach cheer for a very strict league - and my girls are always saying how "neat" the uniforms in the Cheer magazines that the 'cheer-sluts' are wearing are. Their 12-13 -- no make up, no glitter, and I sure as hell better not see a belly button.

Two thumbs up for parents, and associations who make girls dress like ladies.

I totally agree, The other day, I was in a shop behind a young girl of about 10, she was with her mother, and when she turned around to face me, she was wearing a t-shirt with the words "Squeeze me, Please me" written on it. I was horrified to think that this young girls mother actually let the child wear something like that.

You are so right. I don't know how many times I see girls dressed like tramps.....this is scarry to me because my daughter is only 2 1/5 and I am terrified that she will think this is attractive.

lol.... the question " whats wrong with people wearing nearly nothing ?". Back when people had no clothes they had to go around naked and thats just nature, nothing wrong with it. When clothes were invented, being naked was illegal now whats up with that? ITS JUST SKIN, i dont know why anyone would care if someone shows there skin acting like its a big deal. So a guy can go walking down a street without a shirt on, but a girl cant? Just because they have what men dont.. people its just skin.

Children these days don't see to have much of a childhood, what they see and hear seems to make them want to grow up quicker.
I think you're right though, parents should be educating their children to dress appropriatly.

i totally agree.. these days.. its a rare sight to see a kid dressed appropriately for his/her age.. its okay for kids to stay in touch and keep up with the modern times .. but not at the risk of losing one's childhood all too suddenly...

i do not wish to meddle with my children's sense of fashion and style.. but i will be there to guide them... and share my insight as to what would look good on them and what could not..
