Another vote for the Harris Bi-pod. It mounts on your front sling swivel stud, and doesn't require any additional holes drilled for mounting. Rock solid, adjustable height, folds flat against the stock when not in use. Puts all other brands like B-Square to shame...Prices start at about $60..Worth every penny..
As far as scopes go, before you buy you need to know (if you don't already) that you are going to get the quality that you pay for. The scope is the one single component you should not cut corners on, regardless of your budget. If you are going to shoot the Remington 700 to the best of the rifles abilities, you need to buy a quality scope. There are many to choose from but I would recommend the Leupold Target A. O.series scopes as a place to begin looking. Take the time to go to a stocking Dealer and actually see these scopes in your own hands and ask questions. There are also countless websites and discussion groups that you can read the postings of top long range shooters, and get an education better than one you could pay for. My point is to take your time, but see your scope as an "investment" that will enhance your shooting abilities and make you a better shot in the long run, regardless of what brand you wind up buying.

I agree, Harris Bipods are the best. I have a Trijicon AccuPoint 2.5-10x56 Amber Triangle scope on top of a Sako Deluxe Finnbear 30-06 and it's dead on at 500 - 600.

Bipod, get a Harris, BEST on the market.
Scopes is another story, depending on what magnification your eye likes, what kind of reticle you like etc. Look into Bushnell banner series, sort of a low end scope, but for around a hundred bucks ya cant really go wrong, check inot millet and mueller scopes as well, barska too. Nikon monarch and leupold for a little more money.

i have a cousin that is a sniper in the 101st(OORAH!) the m21 is basically a .308 Remington 700 with a Leupold scope on it. it is an extremely wondrous rifle in the hands of the right person. however leupolds come with a price tag. if you are looking for something for free compared to a Leupold scope, try Bushnell and Tasco. they are good for the money you'll pay.

Harris bipod for sure. Rock solid and durable.
I'm a fan of Nikon optics. Here's the one I'd recommend for you. You can spend more, you can spend less but you won't get much better and you will get a lot worse.

If it is modern O.F. Mossberg it could purely be considered one of two diverse rifles being made those previous few years. You did not supply a form huge style so indexed decrease than are values for the two modern weapons. Mossberg form 4X4 with 4-5 shot detachable magazine . Retails for $425.00 In ninety 5% situation well worth $315.00 or Mossberg form 100ATR with staggering loading magazine. Retails for $349.00 In ninety 5% situation well worth $285.00 the two between the above rifles got here in compact programs with or with out Simmons scope. If yours got here with a scope upload $fifty 5 to the above values. those are costs in line with August 2007 industry values for sellers and are as much as date month-to-month. i exploit this as a foundation for my Appraisel employer, component to my Gun save employer. you may anticipate those figures as precise.

You can spend lots more money, but IMNSHO, you can't get a better scope than a Leupold.
On the inexpensive side, Simmons makes some decent scopes.

hey orion,
people are saying wal-mart because they like to save a few bucks. they sell things cheaper in price, not cheaper in quality. and trust me they do not sell seconds. so if you want to spend your money unwisely go ahead, i'm just glad it's not my wallet you're spending with.
get a weaver if you can afford it. just remember usually you get what you pay for with optics.
