any advice on how to get him to open up??

Maybe he is shy! Why don't you make the first move to make him more comfortable. Make a time to hang out with eachother to get to know.
Or he is using you. If he has his back turned to you and always hangs out with his friends and is Clearly ignoring you. You need to also speak up, or end it. Good luck!

you should definitely talk to him to see what's going on . the only way you r going to find out it's by talking to him ,talk to him and see what is on his mind.
