Recently, my (former) christian friend invited me to his father's funeral.
As he was talking to me about his father's death, he cried uncontrollably.
So I said to him, if you are a real christian you will stop that stupid crying and move on.
I mean like, come on, christians believe you go to heaven after you die.
Well, after I related this to my friend he went beserk telling me I'm going to burn in hell.
Christians, don't you realize everytime you get angry at atheists for no good reason, you make yourself look like an idiot.
It is not logical for any person to cry when someone dies.
Thank gesus I'm an atheist.
Look at me, I'm an atheist, and I know more how you should act than you know how to read your buybill!

No it's not logical to cry at a person's funeral. It's not supposed to be logical. I'll come right out and say it and do my extra time in purgatory. You're an insensitive dope. With the emphasis on "dope".

Yes we as Christians believe in a life after death, but there is still the sadness of separation upon someone's death. And there is the hope that we will eventually all meet again after this is all over. Sadly, some of us, by their own choice, won't be there.

The only reason a real Christian would cry at a funeral is because he or she would miss their loved one. But they will rejoice if their loved one went to heaven too and they see each other again. As for your friend saying what he said that was rude of him, as for you I will keep you in prayer, Because you got to go somewhere when you die.

I cried at my Mother's funeral last month because "I" will no longer be able to love her and be with her here on earth as I know it now. I miss her with all my heart. Evidently, you don't have one if you can't understand why anyone would cry over a death. Yes, I am happy for "her" that she is with Jesus now and pain free. But, I am sad for myself because I have to live the rest of my life here with out the most wonderful Mother in the world. And yes, my BIBLE restores my faith on Gods plan for us. I'm sorry that your "opinion" is that we look like idiots. But, not true. I won't badger you over that. One day you will see for yourself just who is right. If you'd stop and think now, you still have a chance. It's so logical that "things" just don't HAPPEN! Like the first human, tree, flower, food, animals, etc, etc, etc.......Just where do you suppose the first one came from? So, anyways, I mourn for my Mother because I can't have her anymore here with me. But, someday, we will be together again for eternity.

While I understand your premise which is:

Why would you cry if you truly believe they are still alive in soul and have gone to a place of eternal bliss and joy forever and are in fact better off than you right now.

The fact still remains that you will miss them. I cried when my daughter went off to college even though I know she was going to a college of her dreams and would be so happy there and having all these wonderful experiences.

Religion has NOTHING to do with the reason that I personally cry at a funeral.

It hurts to loose someone close to you. The fact that you can't talk to that person, to hold that person, to just even be near that person.

I hope that if and when you loose someone close, that somebody is a little more compassionate to you.

It's heartless that you could tell someone to just get over it.

Regardless of your friends poor behavior...

Is it not logical to cry simply because one misses a loved one? Yes, I rejoice in the fact that if a Christian loved one passes on, they go on to be with God in Heaven. But, I am also sad that they will no longer be a part of my life, here, as long as I remain.

Crying would be more for your own loss of a person that was close to you in life. Grieving for the loss of someone is an emotion that touches people no matter what their religious or lack of religious background may be.

Personal loss causes many people to cry at the funeral.

You have very high and unreasonable expectations of Christians...........and of Christ Himself:

John 11:33-36

33 When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. 34 "Where have you laid him?" he asked.

"Come and see, Lord," they replied.

35 Jesus wept.

36 Then the Jews said, "See how he loved him!"
(from New International Version)
