This really sucks because I was going to buy one of those $449.00 laptops from Best Buy or Circuit City with Vista Home Basic and upgrade it to Home Premium but the problem is that they make the laptops with a Celeron Processer which CAN'T handle the higher Vista editions. I heard the best type of processor for Vista was a duo processor of any kind. This really stinks. It's like they don't want you to upgrade. I wish Microsoft didn't make a Basic version of Vista because it is so limited in what it can actually do. Look at the link if you don't believe me. Now I have to buy one of them $500-600 laptops because I really want premium because I do more then basic stuff on a computer. It really stinks for me because I'm on a budget of what I can spend.

You do not want Vista Basic. It is not a good choice as you have described. BestBuy and CCity are just trying to lure customers in that don't really know about computers. These are really bad deals, unless you are using it for grade school.

So, you are stuck with buying whatever laptop you can afford and get Vista Home Premium as the most economical setup.

Our Dell Inspiron (CentrinoDuo 2GHz, 2GB RAM, and nVidia card) with Vista does just fine for us. It was a lot more than $500 though.
