being paranoid, you fear everyone, and everything..and fear the unknown, and think people are out to get you...or plotting against you...now a person with a phsycotic mind, is a bit more dangerous, to others...as they can actually hallucinate, to the point where they will actually act on things...where a person who is just paranoid, can control themselves better

There can be an overlap. Psychosis involves a loss of contact with reality. Paranoia (suspicions not based in fact) is irrational--but tends to less intense. It can ramp up to psychotic levels.

psychotic is a more generalized description of a mental illness- paranoia IS a psychosis, but so is schitzophrenia, ocd, etc. we tend to think that psychotic is a word to describe killers and rapists and such but there are a lot of less disturbing but equally troublesome mental issues in this category

i always thought psychotics had a lot of fun when i was younger- but then i dated one and no it was not fun, hun!!!

Psychotic is living outside of reality. Paranoid is fear and lack of trust.
