It wouldn't be smart at all. It would be the dumbest move in US history (above and beyond Bush's invasion of Iraq).
What happens in the middle east is of no concern to the US.
If we would have minded our own business in the first place, 9/11 wouldn't have ever happened.

It is possible but it will be a fatal proposition to do so - Iran has nuclear capability and a bitter streak toward the US ever since the CIA initiated a coup to over throw the Shan of Iran. This triggered the Iranian Revolution, giving Ayatolla the rise into power. The Iranians also have protested against the US attemptes to install a puppet leader to serve US interests.
If a war does occur, then it will be a very different war for the US - the Iranians will not roll over like the Iraqis - the US will have very little support for action against Iran.

Really not very smart at all. If Iraq and Afghanistan aren't really under that great a deal of control, and the US is almost alone in Iraq (as the UK have almost entirely withdrawn now) then how is the army expected to 1) invade a large country like Iran, 2) fight and win against a large army like Iran has 3) hold the new territory against an even larger insurgency AND continue to hold onto Iraq - with the same amount of manpower that is ALREADY stretched. I just can't see a way that it's going to happen without a draft, which means it's unlikely to happen.

The Pentagons war plan for an invasion of Iran is that it can be accomplished in two days. This is how long it would take US missiles and naval gun fire to disarm Iran of it's conventional army and air power. Naturally an insurgency would arise, but then again, the back will have been broken of the conspirators who now arm Iraqi insurgents.
I for one, believe the Pentagon, if they were to make public the strategy and time table, in neutering Iran !

Can we not learn from Korea and Viet Nam? It is senseless to attack Iran, or any other country, unless one is willing to do whatever it takes to win. That would include force up to and including nuclear weapons. The last war the US really won was WW2. Check history, the allies did not hesitate to use every weapon at their disposal. To do anything less is a betrayal of our troops. In 1952 General Douglas MacArthur said "It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it". He was speaking of Korea, and he was right. It would be suicide to attack Iran with anything less than the full force of the United States Military. If we are not ready to do that, we should stay home.

The Military is already stretched too thin. It would be a bad idea. We need to gain control of Iraq better before doing anything with Iran!

Iran has so many problems internally that there is no need to invade. Structure that created the Iranian Revolution is already imploding.

Good idea!
Iran shouldn't necessarily be invaded, but they're being a nuisance, trying to throw their weight around. I want to see a repeat of Operation: El Dorado Canyon done on them! State-sponsored terrorism against US servicemen must be punished!

Let me put it like this, Iran has 13 million citizens in its country trained to fight. Paramilitary 11 million, reserve 750000 and army is 500000.
If we attacked Iran it would be like jumping in an acid pool.
