Choosing an anti-depressant is a very individual process. What works for one person, may not work for another.

You should really talk to your doctor about his recommendations & ask about the pros & cons of each prescription.

To help you research anti-depressants, here are some links:
http://www.webmd.com/depression/tc/Depression-Medications
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/depression-treatment/DO99999

Both these sites have drug information section so you can look up specific medications.

I would suggest Buproprion, an antidepressant (sold as Wellbutrin) also found to be effective to help people quit smoking (sold under the name Zyban - 150 mg). Wellbutrin is available in immediate release (75 and 100 mg tablets) and sustained release (100 and 150 mg) formulas (sold as Wellbutrin SR).

Chemically, Bupropion is unrelated to any other major antidepressant, and why it works is still not known. Perhaps that is why it has few side effects that are sexually related.

Almost all of the other class of antidepressants have an impact on sexual drive and performance.

I would also suggest Wellbutrin XL, which is the slow release, once a day, form!

Buproprion is the generic equivalent.

Should be prescribed by a psychiatrist! Depression should be treated as long-term depession can lead to chemical changes in your brain.

You can't get it without a physician prescribing it! It is not an over-the-counter drug!

Okay, you have to be very careful reading all the answers you've received.

There are plenty of good antidepressants. But, they work in different ways on your brain. Only your doctor knows specifically what type of depression you are experiencing and the right antidepressant for you.

Talk to your doc about this important decision.

Antidepressant therapy is very, very individualized. What works great for one patient may not for another. What is side-effect free for me may be intolerable for you.

If you are not confident in your doctor's ability to appropriately prescribe, it would be a really good idea to see a psychiatrist. Doctors in this specialty have far more experience and expertise with antidepressants than primary care providers.

Both my brother and I (it must be in the blood) are really happy with Wellbutrin. He has had bad luck with Prozac and Lexapro. And I personally went through hell with the well liked and tolerated Lamictal. Everybody is different, though--this is just what I know.

Good luck!

not all anti-depressants work for everyone. welbutrin didn't work for me, but the zoloft does wonders. your doctor will make the right decision.

well usually you have to do trial and error, b/c theres no set anitdepressant that is gonna work for everyone, like i have taken like 5 and none of them have worked for me. however i will say that prozac has been known to work well, when other medications have failed.

See a mental health professional for a real diagnosis. Try to avoid pills if you can. Chemical dependency can make your feelings worse down the road.

That depends on your body. No one can tell you what is good, because it will only be good FOR THEM! You have to decide what is good FOR YOU.
