I just got done reading an article about car vs Semi accidents in Ohio. It said that in 71 percent of those accidents, the driver of the car is at fault. They also said most of those accidents resulted in fatalities. As a result of this, the state of Ohio has begun a public awareness program to let people know they should give big trucks plenty of room. Especially when the driver of the car needs to get over in front of the Semi. It also states Ohio has even begun ticketing people for cutting off 18 wheelers and not giving the trucks enough room. My question for you is this: Is the government deoing anything like this in your area? And if so, what part of the country are you in?

The government already did something. It's called a drivers test. Some people should not be driving, period.

In my experience I've seen both car and semi drivers act pretty irresponsibly.

Car drivers get frustrated when semi's pull out in front of them with little or no warning just so they don't lose speed going up a hill and have to pass another semi.

Semi drivers get mad at cars when the cars linger around in the left highway lane when they SHOULD be using the right lane unless they're passing. If you're passing....don't creep along next to a semi expecting no ticket because you were going right at the speed limit and you have a right to use any lane you want..........WRONG.

My solution would consist of drivers being a lot more patient on the roads they share. It is a privilage to drive! Many drivers need to quit trying to get everywhere at light speed with no consideration for other drivers on the roadways....cars and trucks included.

I have limited markings on one side of my vehicle. There's never a day go by where someone not seeing the decal drives past me with very poor skills.

But I don't think one group of vehicle is any less culpable than another. Truck drivers know they can't stop like a car...and car drivers know trucks carry large and heavy loads.

I think some "interstate idiots" have lost a lot of common sense when they drive so dangerously at the expense of other drivers sharing the road.

A number of state highway police departments are taking similar initiatives. One of the problems is that the car cutting off the semi usually is not involved in the accident they cause. The semi jack knifes and following vehicles run into the trailer at high speed.
Bad car driving along with poor handling and reaction time from overly bored, tired or distracted semi drivers are major problems on our nations highways.

Cutting off another driver - trucker or no - is called an improper lane change, and can also be called aggressive driving, careless driving, and even reckless driving depending on circumstances and all.

It's never ceases to amaze how many stupid people there are in this world who think they can tangle with a 50,000 pound vehicle and live to tell the tale.

It is simple common sense to give truckers plenty of room.
