SO12G, I think you need to become familiar with the Biblical literalists' best friend... It starts with, "Well, given the time and place, the morality of...", and ends with, "... and that's why God loves you."

It's the philosophy of moral relativism without the "philosophy" part.

You have riddled these forums with these ridiculous, misinterpreted, paraphrased scriptures, which you claim, without honor or validity, to be the actual wording found in the Bible. You want so badly for people to agree with you, that you will falsify your entire question to get a positive response. You need psychological help, you sad little thing.

Here is the actual scripture: Oh, and by the way, it is Dueteronomy, not Duetronomy.

22:23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; (22:23-24)
22:24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die. 22:26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
22:27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

For all who read her question....Please, just read Deuteronomy 22:23-27 before you answer her. After you read it, you may decide that the question does not merit an answer. Likewise, her other questions that she has so copiously posted, all without a factual basis.

The actual passage is:

23: If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
24: Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you

They didn't have DNA tests then.. the only way to "prove" rape was if she protested..and remember if she's a virgin, she's likely crying out if raped if you know what I mean. Otherwise women could just have an affair, and if caught say.. "well I was raped you know"...

I don't agree with it mind you.. but that was their thinking behind it.

before u sit down and criticize the contents of the Bible firstly, please make sure that you have thee translation of the Bibile and not just any random one..what i mean by this is thee translation of the Orthodox Christian religion...and also so u noe if u r so worried that the Bible is conveying horrible messages, which it isn't, u simply misunderstood it (i noe u r gonna say, "well then, explain it to me!" but there is no way that i can since understanding thee Bible will take more than a lifetime to try) if u have any questions, go talk to a priest (and do not worry that he might go on and say what u told him to someone else..they cannot do such a thing...as a great greek orthodox christian bishop once said to my mom,who had the same thoughts as u are having now, "if i go and say to people what u have shared with me..then it is like taking the federal express to hell) they do have a greater understanding than we do and he will be able to explain it to u...now if after u have spoken with a priest u still have enough ego to feel that thee Bibile is wrong, wll then, i guess u can fight it out with God when u die.

Deutronomy 22: 23-25
23"Suppose a man is caught in a town having intercourse with a young woman who is engaged to someone else.24 you are to take them outside the town and stone them to death. She is to die because she did not cry out for help, although she was in a town, where she could have been heard. And the man is to die because he had intercourse with someone who was engaged. In this way you will get rid of this evil."
25"Suppose a man out in the countryside rapes a young woman who is engaged to someone else. Then only the man is to be put to death;26nothing is to be done to the woman, because she has not committed a sin worthy of death.

The way I read it the first woman was having consentual sex with someone while engaged to another.
The woman who was raped was not condemned.

Take into account the time period and the fact that this is from the old testament.

This is a very good example of why I believe some of the Bible was written by men professing it was "from God."
Tell me, doesn't your quote sound like that of a sick chauvinistic male?
Know this, God is neither sick or chauvinistic--these could not be the words of God.
There are parts of the Bible, I believe, that were inspired by God, but I don't think all of it was.
I think this is the reason God left the warning at the end of Revelations about anyone adding to-or taking from his word.
He must have expected it; why else would the warning be placed.

Actually, your quote is not from the bible at all. You've been misled.

Here's what Deuteronomy 22:23 - 24 ACTUALLY says:
"If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death - the girl because she was in a town yet did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife."

So, you said the girl was raped. But the actual scripture says nothing of the sort. You made it seem only the girl is to be stoned to death. But the actual scripture says BOTH the man and the girl shall be stoned to death. You made it seem like the girl would be stoned to death for being raped. But the actual scripture is about consentual ADULTERY.

Are there anymore lies you would like to spew?

I realyl really really try to be respectful of christianity but it's changed so much over time, from judism to christianity and it changes along with the way peoples belifs change and they reform etc etc. If a religons true why does it need to be reformed? My opinion is that people are selfish and if there was once a true religon it got completly screwed up. Either that or god was an *** and changed his opinion later:P which means hes not perfect

God is love. Love is not a pat on the head, regardless of what you do. Just because half the children are being raised that way, doesn't mean their parents love them.

Love is creative, it also sees the big picture. Things we can't possibly see or understand.

Those who see God for what He truly is, stand between His knees and watch out at the world facing Him. Those who do not understand or know God, are the ones facing Him with 'fear and trembling'.
