Curious question - I've been reading some teen forums and come across students who are interested in pursuing relationships with teachers after leaving their schools.

Would you think it is appropriate for a student and teacher to begin to work on a love relationship after the student has graduated?

I'm asking in the sense that these feelings weren't just a temporary crush, but were more serious, sincere and long-term, indicating a possiblity of real love developing between the two?

What is your opinion?

Thanks, and have a great day!

Hmm, this is an interesting question. This is completely your decision, i merly offer advice.
There is a fine line between a student and a teacher/advisor. And certain lines like these are very fragile and dangerous if crossed, even if the student is no longer attending the school in a scholastic way. Because it will still look rather immoral in different ways. Meaning that it will look rather awkward when people find out that your involved in a romantic way. The teacher might loose respect or admiration as well as the student. And the teacher might get into legal issues as well. But, with all decisions, it is all your choice. Look at all of the sides of the issue, and trust yourself in your final choice. Good luck

After graduation, if both are consenting adults, there is nothing illegal or unethical about that. So in that respect it is not inappropriate.

On the other hand, and it sounds like you are talking about high school graduation, 18 is still very young, and if the former teacher is much older than the former student, the relationship still may not be that of two equal individuals. The relationship is not doomed but is surely tenuous.

I think it's generally inappropriate and that in almost all cases the feelings were a temporary crush.

I also think the student and teacher shouldn't begin a relationship right after graduation, as that would really give an impression that something inappropriate was going on during school.

It happens but it's risky. People in the town start to think that maybe the teacher was fooling with the student before graduation or maybe that the teacher is messing with students now. It's not illegal to date after graduating, but it will almost certainly damage the teacher's career.

As a college professor I have many students who "fall for me". However I never take advantage of that because I know that it is almost like taking advantage of a sacred trust. If however the student is not in one of my classes and there is a general interest on both part then I would date that person. However since it is likely that the person is a lot younger than me I have no expectations and so far it has only been theortical.

Well, my best friend has an older brother who was in our english teacher's class a long time ago. He and the english teacher now are like best friends. (teacher=guy)

She knows they're having sex.

So yeah, but just don't date the kid, it makes things awkward for they're sibs.

*Oh yeah and the brother is 22 now. The teacher is 40. o.0

As long as the student is 18, it should be okay. But I haven't had many teachers who aren't married already (and with children). God bless.

yes. it is ok. as long as the student is over 18, and no longer a student of the teacher, it is ok.
