My fiance has never been to church. He doesn't know the differences between any religions. He said that he's never really thought about God, heaven, hell, where we came from, where we're going, etc. He doesn't deny there is a God, but he doesn't say there is a God either. He said he's never really thought about stuff like that cause he doesn't really care. He doesn't know enough about religion to care about it. I asked him if he believed in a higher power... He said he's never thought about it. I asked him what he believed in... He said,"Myself, I guess." That just seems weird to me that someone has no thoughts on religion whatsoever. Most people on here know what they believe (yes there is a God, no there isn't a god, there are many gods, etc.) So my question is... What is my fiance? He's not Atheist, because he doesn't deny there is a God. He's not Agnostic, because he doesn't necessarily believe that God's existence is unknowable. He just doesn't care at all. What do you call this?

To Chris Cross Christ: Yes, He thinks! lol
To Everyone Else: I only asked this question, because I've never heard of anyone not having any thoughts at all on religion. I'm not going to push a religion on him or anything. I am an atheist and will accept whatever belief system he has. I just found our conversation the other day to be like no other I've ever had. I felt stumped I guess. I discussed it with my best friend, and she was confused too. I only wanted an opinion for my knowledge only. I'm not going to tell him what he is or isn't. his is my own curiosity here. Thanks for your answers!

I would call him "apathetic". You really answered your own question - "He just doesn't care at all."

If your beliefs are such that this doesn't bother you, don't fret about it. Love him anyway. UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

On the other hand, I would check and see if he's this apathetic about everything. A man with no opinions is dull and worrisome.

I was gonna say "apatheist," and then a few others beat me to it. :-)

My wife was kind of the same way. I was raised with all these ideas about God and heaven and hell and salvation and damnation ... while her mom simply encouraged her daughters to explore for themselves. My wife's sister drifted into Wicca, while my wife took up an interest in Taoism ... but more as a way of harmonizing with nature than of trying to figure out the "big questions."

Some people just aren't concerned about it ... probably because they figure that whatever IS out there, they can only guess at what it might be, and they can't do anything about it anyway. I actually think that's a pretty healthy attitude. I'd love to have not grown up grappling with religious questions that my parents' faith planted in my head. All it ever did was make me neurotic. ;-)

He's in a "category" that you do not want to marry if you are a Christian, and you should already know this if you are. And if you've never invited him to church, what have been waiting for? As Christians, God is to be the CENTER of our marriage and that is obviously, impossible if there are not TWO believers in the marriage. Don't marry him thinking that he will change "someday", but save yourself from the heartache and problems of the future, NOW before its too late! God bless...

Someone on this board the other day coined a word I'd never heard of before that might fit this situation: an apatheist. Such a person doesn't care if there's a god or not. ;-)

Why is it so important that you categorize him? I hope you appreciate his refreshing honesty.

Agnosticism only by it's dictionary definition is the belief that whether God exists is un-knowable, Agnostic (in everyday language) means "I'm not sure if God is real".

He is an agnostic.

he's a confused person you can't be in between you either believe in God or you don't maybe you should wait a lil before you get married because if you're not on the same page in religion then you'll have some problems there and the Bible says that you're supposed to be equally yoked with your spouse I hope he finds out what he believes soon because if he can't decide on religion then how would he decide on major decisions in your married life.....i think you should pray on this

I can tell you where he stands from a Christian point of view..He is an unbeliever and so are you. God would find no difference between you on Judgment Day.
