Some unhappiness can be directly traced to the actions of another person, male or female. But generally people are as happy as they decide to be or at least as happy as their own personality allows them to be. It is often easier to blame somebody else for depression that comes from within.

Most of us need to take responsibility for our own happiness. If there is a toxic relationship, end it! If there is depression interfering with your ability to enjoy life, get the depression treated. Walking away from a bad relationship takes guts; it is simpler just to stay and be miserable. But it's not the healthy thing to do unless you have some sign that improvement is likely. Staying with an abuser, for example, is never a good choice.

Sometimes unhappiness is due to poor health or circumstances that neither you nor the people you love can control. In that case trying to tell yourself that it's somebody else's fault is totally non-productive. Just accept that sh*t happens and try to pull yourself out of it the best way you can.
