Atheist and Agnostic Only. What is a moral or ethical stance you wish to share with your more Religious brethren?

I hope this isn't an inappropriate question. I just wish to know. I know you have morals and ethical standards that match your more Religious brethren. I just wish to know where you stand on topics of your choice. Just call it curiosity and stupidity put together to form one big ball of wanting to know more.

sorry about getting Atheists spelled wrong. I am very grammatically incorrect.

As for being a bigot. I try my best not to be. And I didn't make the assumption that your moral and ethical standards were lower than mine. If you read the question you would see this. I think they are equal to mine or higher. As I have not bean the best person and am always seeking to jmprove.

As an Atheist, I dont stand here judging anyone on what religion they choose to follow or not follow, I dont take a womens right choose away because I think all human conception has a right to be born regardless of the situation or mothers views, opinions. I think same sex marriage is great if they love each other enough to want to get married, what could be bad about two grown adults who are in love with each other and want to spend the rest of each others lives together?! (Nothing in my opinion) Gay marriage doesnt hurt you, or anyone else, and frankly its no one's business if two women want to get together and be married and even adopt or have a child together, there are men and women who get married and have children all the time but even most of them arent capable of raising a child right together, or staying married for very long. I also believe that medicine, and science isnt evil especially when it comes to saving our lives, or possibily finding cures for diseases we havent cured yet...like stem cells (especially when they are going to be tossed in the trash, and discarded because some people like to think its an actual living baby in a petrie dish.
I believe in humanity and being true to myself and always question the things that you are told to believe in or what beliefs are right or wrong, when it comes down to it, no one is right and no one is wrong, as long as each of us live our lives accordingly, and happy the way we see fit, no matter what as long as you arent hurting others or yourself then I dont have a problem and Im not imposing my views onto others to get them to live by the standards I do, because it might not be how someone else sees things and people need to be aware of that, be tolerant!!

Atheist here. Honesty and kindness are the two most important human characteristics. Almost every other moral issue falls under these categories. We must strive to not harm any person, place or thing. Punishment of crime should be determined by the level of harm done either physical, emotional, material or monetary. I am not for abortion but I am pro choice as long as it is done within a specific time of pregnancy which is some time within the first 3 months. I am against the death penalty only because there are people on death row who have been proven innocent. I certainly believe that there are some crimes deserving of death. We cannot make the law apply to some and not to others.
Everything else is ones own business.
As Steve said.. Immorality is illogical. We should strive for a better society.
Basically the root of all wrong doing or harm is selfishness.

Morally: If the Catholic church thinks that birth control and abortion are wrong, why are they against gay marriage? Who is the least likely group to use BC or have an abortion? Gays! Let them marry and enjoy the same freedoms as the Heteros. It hurts no one. Also, let them adopt. This crap that two gay parents could force a child to be gay as well is crap - plenty of gays were raised by hetero parents, and they didn't turn out hetero. I am also pro choice - if you ban abortions, young women are still going to get into trouble...only instead of having doctors perform the procedure, they will revert to taking toxic substances in the hopes of inducing a miscarriage, or worse go to back alley doctors with unsterilized equipment and unsafe conditions.
I am frustrated with the seeming disregard for science from people of faith - Do you as a religion really believe that the earth was created 6000 years ago, and that cavemen rode on the backs of dinosaurs? That church in Paducah Kentucky advocates that stance, and it just seems silly to me.
When a person of faith believes so blindly, it can make them seem gullible.
Not sure if this was the type of response you were looking for, but thanks for listening.

I am agnostic theist, which is quite different from atheist. There are many forms of agnosticism, so please take care in grouping us together with atheism. Being agnostic does not mean that a person does not believe in anything at all, as "belief" and "knowledge" are not the same thing.

That said, I personally support gay marriage. I do not support abortion except in extreme cases, though I respect that others feel differently than I do and have every right to choose for themselves. I do not feel a need to save the world; I believe in saving my family, my town, my country, and then the world. I'm wishy-washy about the death penalty. And I love children, but I'm getting awfully tired of always hearing "but it's for the children!"

In my opinion, this not an inappropriate at all, for the very good reason that I subscribe to the constitution of France (similar to the early American one). SO my ethical stance should be in both texts "People are free, but their freedom stops where it trespasses on the freedom of someone else." In substance, not the exact wording, but the Spirit of the thing ! ;-) That's why France is non denominational, religiously speaking, you can't impose a religion, but people are free to believe or not believe what they want and say so. A good way to stop or prevent any arbitrary religious regimes while granting freedom of cult.

I believe religion is without morals... I believe the bible is full of warnings about it... I don't understand why Christians don't see what is obviously in front of their faces.... when the bible talks about the deceived it means YOU the religious . Christianity being the first, then regurgitation of it into other religions... that is why there is so much in common among religions...

My beef is that today many people are trying to explain to christian why they are wrong... whether it be agnostics, pagans or atheist... they do these things because you are wrong... how could evil have such a hold on you that you choose stupidity.... I don't get it...

This is an appropriate question for a religious bigot.
Do you presume that every society, every culture and every sub-group of your own culture that does not believe in the same silly superstition that you believe is immoral and unethical?
How ethnocentric. Or how bigot-centric.
You have to be really ignorant or really brainwashed to think that society would fall apart if it weren't for your personal theistic superstition.
Any cultural anthropologist, sociologist or historian knows that is not the case and can explain in clear, scientific terms why that is not an accurate perception.
Bigots fail to grasp the importance of epistemology and particularly a scientific epistemology.

Live & let live. I don't believe in what you believe in. Yet, I don't go telling you how wrong I think you are because I really don't care. Why don't I care? Because I live my life & you live your life. It's so simple that even 5 year old can understand it! Follow the basic rules & we'll all get along. Try to force me into your way & I'm gonna shut you out of my life completely. If you still try to bother me, I might have to have you arrested & incarcerated! If it turns out that you WERE correct & my soul is lost, then it's MY PROBLEM to deal with & unless you'd like to accompany me to the gates of your hell, then I suggest that you simply back off & walk away, cuz I could take you will me for an exchange of souls & leave you, in that place called hell, in place of me! IF I believed in such things!

Morals and ethics are not the sole province of religion. Let me give you a sort of guiding principal that I use, and which was written by a non-Christian:

"If it is not right, do not do it. If it is not true, do not say it."

That's from the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius.

Most values are determined by a common society or nation of people. We are all American and have the same basic values. The only way I may differ is as follows:

I'm Pro Choice. But we don't want to get into that now do we?
And I permit Same Sex Marriage.

I refuse to pass any judgement on anybody, no matter how evil any person may be (I don't mean everyone is free all the time, it's too hard for me to explain this concept to people by typing it out here, just pretend I have a valid reason, think of it as more of a "Let he who has not sinned..." scenario). It's not for me to decide. I fiercely believe in Karma.
