Never knew any grand parents!!
my mom and dad where in their thirties
Be honest for 10 years you had no idea what food SHOULD taste like..
My mom burnt so many dinners.
I remember her scrapping the black off toast ,,,HA
Believe ME,,, to ME they were wonderful..!!
I know the meatloaf was put in the broiler at the end and was not taken out until smoke was in the kitchen ??? No one can duplicate that...
BUT the crispy crust was not burnt
HA
Lorddie - - cream egg on toast with the yoke grated on top,,
and to make if fun a sprinkle of paprika,, She called it dirt.
Ha
She did that with French Toast too,, she would dust with powdered sugar then shake a can of dirt on it ''cinnamon''
HA
Thank you
PS
no one in the family can do it and They have her cook book

I miss her homemade bread, and mashed potatoes, and gravy. And her cookies. And rusk. She was the most awesome cook, and I still hate that I never got her recipes before she died. Oh, and she made a killer goulash! I think I've replicated it. It's ground beef, onion, garlic, green bell pepper, paprika, and a can of cheddar soup and a can of tomato soup, and green olives. Toss with 1.5 cups of elbow mac that's been boiled off, put in a casserole, and top with cheese. She called it Mulligan Stew, but of course it's really not...but it was Grandma's!

You're absolutely correct! Grandmas are the best cooks, mine lives in Mexico. Now she has gotten on a bit in age and doesn't cook but i remember she made liver and onions taste good (not an easy task). But my favorite would be "chiles rellenos" thats poblano chiles stuffed with mixture of ground beef, potatoes, cheese and seasonings battered and fried. Delish!!

Yes! My grandma has lived in the South all of her life and therefore makes some great Southern food. I like it when she fries green tomatoes, okra, and eggplant. I've never been able to make them as good as she does. Her cobblers, pound cakes, and biscuits are also delicious! Her macaroni and cheese is really good too.

No way, my grandmother was the worst cook in the world! Her food needed salt to taste bland. She one time made homemade pancakes that looked (and tasted) like tupperware lids.
She was a wonderful woman and we loved her to death, God rest her soul, but she couldn't boil water without burning it.

My grandma used to cook outstanding biscuits & gravy because she used grease & butter & salt. Those things taste good together.

OMG YES!! I can't recite any of her recipe's off the top of my head but to all you young people out there --
GET GRANDMA'S RECIPES BEFORE SHE PASSES
And it's always best to get them in HER handwriting. I miss my Grandma so much but love to look over (and make) her recipes!
