We are painting one room a cappichino (sp) color and the other room a light green. I think painting the ceiling would close it in, but just checking.

I am a painting contractor that specializes in the luxury home market . All the homes I work on are sone by designers and I can tell you the most popular thing for ceilings right now is to use the same color that is on the wall for the ceiling only 50 to 75 lighter than the shade that is on the wall.

Ceilings are a pain in the butt to paint.... If you do paint it, do NOT paint it the same color. My ceiling in my den/library is a light tan, which compliments the rich brown on the walls. It's pretty. Sounds dark, but you would have to see the room. Somehow, the color I hate (brown) looks great in there with the old school red furniture and bookshelves. It looks like an English library.

Anyways, you can paint it, or not. I would say not. I would put some white molding where the ceiling meets the wall. That is a cheap way to make it look really good.

Painting the ceiling will make the room appear taller b/c your eye won't identify the separation between the wall & ceiling. The only caveat to this is if you have crown molding around the room at the ceiling. But your colors appear to be pretty light, so I would paint the ceilings with those colors.

It all depends on what effect you're trying to have. If you want a cozy, warm feeling in a room then go ahead and paint the ceiling the same color. But if you want to open up the space then paint it a light color or white.
For instance, I wanted to achieve a beachy feeling in our great room so I painted the walls a butter cream, the ceiling a pearlized pale, pale blue, and the wainscoting and crown molding an off white.
I wish you well with your project.

You could try mixing some of that left over paint with ceiling white and doing a very light ceiling with it. I think you will have modernized the appearance without darkening the room.

I doubt you want to live in a brown box. Choose a colour to compliment, but it doesn't have to be white. A nice creamy colour would go well with the cappuchino.

Generally, darker colours will close in a space. But that can make the space feel more intimate.

Paint the ceiling first!

Why not use the same color and make it a little darker for the ceiling. Then you will have contrast, Do that for both rooms.
