He HAS been to the vet, he doesn't have worms and doesn't have parvo or any other illness that the vet can detect. He told me the diarrhea is probably just stomach-upset from eating something he shouldn't have, and that it will pass. He's eating and drinking normally, he's not lethargic or depressed. I've been giving him plenty of water to make sure he's not getting dehydrated. What could I feed him to "stop him up?" Plain rice? Bananas? Any ideas? Or should I leave it alone?

I wouldn't do the banana's because they are loaded with sugar. But white rice, raw carrots and believe it or not canned pumpkin. Yes I know it sounds crazy but it works. I don't know if he is getting treats or not during the day, but I wouldn't give him any until this bug goes away.

If all has been ruled out by your vet,it is most probably the diet you have it on that is causing the diarrhea.Try replacing its water with the baby non-flavored pediolyte. You can also give the pet about 1/3 teaspoon of Pepto Bismol every 4 to 6 hours.I would suggest trying another type of good dry dog food,or boil some chicken, cut into small pieces, put in blender with small amount of water and puree it.The chicken will help stablize the diarrhea.Keep your pet as still as possible even if you must contain it in a kennel cab.If diarrhea continues after trying the above, would suggest seeing another vet.

Not bananas.

Presumably the vet gave you advice with how to deal with the stomach upset? Follow this advice, which would usually be feeding frequent small amounts of bland food i.e boiled chicken and rice, and TELL THE VET if there is no improvement or the situation worsens. They will want to know - and if they don't, find another vet!

really you should leave him alone as when you have stomach upset you either have diarrhea or sickness. it is the body's natural way of flushing the body of what ever it is making him ill. if it continues for more than 5 days ring the vet and ask for advice and if you are still not happy take him to another vet for second op pinion

Take two Pepto Bismo Tablets put Vaseline on them so they will slide . Open your pets mouth put it as far back as you can , be sure they swallow it both of them. Your dog will be feelings better in about a half of a hour., The tablet just works better than the liquid. It'll do it every time, it cures a lot of other things than diarrhea, I use on both my dogs works every time.real fast like. I got a good vet.

Stop feeding him his regular food. Switch both kibble and canned food if you feed him both. I'm not saying it's poisoned or anything but some dogs just can't have certain foods. Until you get different food, cooked white rice and cooked hamburger are fine on a dog's stomach.

Add about 1/4 cup of canned pumpkin to his food.
The fiber in the pumpkin will firm up his stools.
I've done this a few times with my dogs and I usually see results within a few hours.
I also know a few breeders who swear by this method.

I had this problem with my boxer. We gave her boiled hamburger, rice, and cottage cheese and mixed it together. It works great. That originally was recommended by our vet. If it continues and your vet does nothing find another vet. If you were in Colorado I would recommend mine.

Try pure canned pumpkin, not pie pumpkin with spices added. Mix 2/3 tbsps. with his breakfast. It won't hurt him and works for my dogs.
