Devotion includes loyality and trust between two people. Obsession is kicking it up a notch where you lose yourself in the need to control the other person. Devotion allows you to be yourself and have other friends and activities away from another person or family. Your heart protects them from harm which means you will not be backtalking about them or giving out secrets or personal information to others. Obsession is like need to control because you feel threatened that you are not getting the devotion you want to have or deserve. They are a fine line in emotions, but you can keep them apart by remaining true to yourself, first.

Devotion dissolves into obsession when one part of the couple can no longer allow the other to be free of him/herself.
Love is allowing the other person the freedom to come or go out of love for that person .
When love turns so selfish and self centered that concern for the needs of self overrides the comfort of the other, the relationship is no longer based on love but self satisfaction and. living through the other person to the point of controlling every aspect of the other parties' being.

As a man who has crossed the line more than once, I find it easy to define the distinction. Devotion is selfless, and consists of a servant's heart, with genuine concern and compassion for your lover. Obsession is selfish by its very nature; demanding, insistent, and ultimately destrucive to any relationship.

The cure? Truly love your mate. Obsession will remain far from you.

devotion is when you will do nearly everything for a couse, but obsession is when you take it too far & do not know when to stop or say no. this can be noticable when a person becomes frantic & reckless & defensive about something.
