Jesus was commissioning them and us to live up to the power of Grace and to be an example and inspiration to the whole world by our witness of lives, speech and prayer

Jesus gives us His Holy Spirit to enlighten us and enkindle us to be with Christ the Light of the World.

He wasn't flattering them and He wasn't talking about being a physical light he was talking about spiritually He means that people see that they have something that they and other people don't have which will lead them to God...or wonder how do they get like that....a light stands out so that means they would be different from the world

He wasn't just talking to the disciples present at the Sermon on the Mount, but to all future believers as well.

The light is the glory of God shining through them:

"It shone with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious stone - like jasper as clear as crystal." Rev 21:1 NLT

We are to be transparent and become more like Christ as he lives in us. Then when the world looks at us they see God's love and peace and hope and glory. The world is full of darkness and God is the only true light.

No, Jesus had just gotten through describing the kind of people who were the light of the world (in the beatitudes), and was saying, "You [who live up to the standards I just prescribed] are the light of the world."

He was not flattering them. he was telling them that they needed to conscious that the rest of the world does not know the way (Jesus' way) but that they had to show them.

They were spiritually lost and they were on the path of righteousness and it was there job to show the way.

What he gave them before was his teachings. So they already knew this.

Yes, he gave them Himself. He (Jesus) is the light of the world.

They have the light & that light is the Word of God.

Also the 'Love light' & is 'Truth'.

Flattery doesn't come from Jesus. Flattery is deceptive & comes from the devil.

Ha ha. Very funny.

Jesus was giving them a directive: to become the light of the world.
