A few days ago, a televangelist was taken off a local Tampa station for saying that Muslims are going to hell. This was because a local Muslim organization complained about the situation. The televangelist also said that Jews and Mormons are going to hell. Was he wrong to say that? Was he, in fact, speaking the truth? If he was, should he be taken off the air? Reference:(TAMPA, FL, 9/6/07) - The Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Tampa) today called on representatives of a local television station and its corporate owner to disassociate themselves from an anti-Semitic and Islamophobic program host. Last month, CAIR-Tampa sent a letter to Sinclair Broadcast Group, the corporate owner of the Florida station (WTTA-TV) that broadcasts "Live Prayer with Bill Keller" asking whether the type of hate rhetoric often used on Keller's program is appropriate for the public airways. Keller has claimed that Jews, Muslims and Mormons are all going to hell.

Was he speaking the truth? Hmmmm..

The bible commands us to "speak the truth in love". That is far different than what seems to have been broadcast, although I did not hear the broadcast.

The truth? Jesus Christ is the only way to the Father. Unless we believe in Him, we do not have eternal life. That is the blunt-but-polite way of putting it.....

god bless

No. Free speech. The televangelist isn't God. He is a person & being a little judgmental. But there are a lot more things allowed that are much worse than saying this.

Well some Muslims, Jews, Mormons, etc. do go to hell. It depends on if they are the devils messengers or not.

Now I know for sure some Jews are Messianic Jews who believe is Yeshua & they are going to heaven. Some Mormons were born again Christians already when they started going to the Mormon Church, so will go to heaven. Probably go to heaven early though.

Muslims don't go to heaven, because they don't receive an atonement for their sins. Even one sins unatoned for will keep us out of heaven. So they will be judged according to their works at the Great White Throne Judgment.

A person can say that all Jews, Muslims & Mormons are going to hell, but that isn't true. He isn't saying that by the inspiration of the LORD God.

More free speech!!!

And the free market!!!

You can use both of these freedoms to fight these things in this country!!! Hooray!!!

The best offense against this kind of excremental assault is to hit the corporate sponsor and any other financial enablers in the pocketbook.

Find out all the places where the corporate sponsor makes his money and make sure they all know the particular statements you will not tolerate and will boycott. Spread the word, as you are now, to all individuals, churches and other religious and social organizations which would oppose this kind of rhetoric.

You can even purchase your own advertisement time and say the particular things you disagree with, even on that radio station!!!

Situations like this provide an opportunity to take ACTION
to prove that those who share the CITIZENSHIP, place of RESIDENCE, COLOR, POLITICAL AFFILIATION and/or, especially,
RELIGIOUS CONFESSION claimed by individuals like this
DO NOT TOLERATE HIS MOTIVES NOR APPROVE OF WHAT HE SAYS.

Such statements from self-appointed pundits of any faith are not about dogma. They are about intolerance and power, and they have bad consequences on many levels throughout the local and world community.

Sounds like an evangelical evangelist. Thank God, most people, including Christians look upon these types of preachers as what they are-- idiots. These are the ones who bloviate and pontificate and then wind up on the news after being caught in bed with a hooker, which might be male or female. Imagine the surprise on the faces of these clowns when they die and the place they wind up at is as hot as hell.

It's pretty cruel to do that, people that intolerant are capable of a lot of hate. Wonder where he'd go next-- racism? Sexism? Yeah, I think that there's a very good chance this guy would get even more inflammatory and it's a good thing that he's off the air-- think what might happen if he said something and someone decided to assassinate him? Taht might look bad on TV.

On the other hand-- freedom of speech. I never choose to censor anything-- ever. IT's a bad thing to start, and where does it end? But I doubt he's going to get many church members with that kind of hate.

Absolutely. Would a muslim-angelist be taken off the air for saying that all christians are going to hell? of course.

I admire christans when they speak of love and happiness to everyone. I'm confused when they express hate and intolerance towards anyone who isn't christian. And yes, telling someone "your going to hell" is ignorant, not to mention selfish. Why do some Christians talk so much about the power of god, but then have the arrogance to speak for god.

When people say everyone who isn't christian is going to hell, are they speaking for god or themselves?

We are living in times where people say any thing, live any kind of way and heads are turned the other way. There is no more saying, "I am my brothers keeper."

We have freedom of speech, freedom of the press and many other liberties. No, he should not be allowed to voice doom over people because he is not God. The Word of God says, "Judge not lest you be judged", (Matt. 7:1). By which measure you judge a man, that is the way you will be judged.

But again, no one follows the rules. The Word of God is mocked and people pick and choose what they want to observe out of God's Word.

While I do have a special intensity of hatred reserved exclusively for TV preachers, no one should ever be taken off the air or silenced in any way for expressing any point of view. To do so seriously undermines a free sociey.

well, no. i don't think that TV Fundy should be forced off the air just because he condemned some specific groups of people to hell. i fail to see why that particular TV Fundy gets the boot when famous ones like Pat Robertson consigns people to hell all the time. but the Tampa TV Fundy should have simply said "anyone who doesn't believe as I do goes to hell" that way most of the world's population is included in his condemnation therefore no specific groups would be any more insulted than anyone else. after all, according to the Bible and the majority of Christians most of the world's population is going to hell.

That's a terrible thing to say; but I don't give much credibility to 'televangelists'. But let's take him off the air as soon as we destroy all the music that says shoot the police, Satan is king, etc....and how about that guy on R&S who's always pushing his "song" along with many other (unmentionable) songs.

aural margin, absolutely! That's the way to do it.

JellyBean & Luke s apparently are for getting rid of our freedom of speech. (Luckily they have the freedom to say so!)

This is exactly why the Founding Fathers founded this country with freedom of speech. But I think this is just an indicator of how quickly our nation can come under Islamic rule. They are already getting the upper hand. I'm prepared for this question to be removed 95% of anything I say that isn't Islam friendly gets erased. Just another example.
