This was on craigslist and I thought I would be noisy to see if these things happen in the miltary to our soldiers

My Question is a Rant/Question:
My Cousin was in the Army for 3 Years and Died over In I think it was Boquba Iraq this past Feb. (Age 22) My Auntie received a Bill Last week August 25 2007 addressed to him stating that he owes DFAS (some military place I guess) $1,987.73 for not returning an issued item back in which was the Kevlar Helmet and the Armored vest that he was wearing when he died. Well actually I cant say if this is what he was wearing at the time or if it was something that was left in his tent while he might have worn a 2nd Issue of Gear.

DFAS some place in St Louis..

I just wrote the biggest letter in my Life to them.

DFAS is the finance department of the Army. You writing to them will not help. Contact your congressman's office, let them know what is going on. They will want you to bring in a copy of the letter to them. Your congressman's office will then contact DFAS and help get this solved.

Very sorry to hear about your cousin. His mom does not need this sort of thing to be dealing with at all. I don't blame you for writing a raging letter to DFAS either. This always helps you to vent your anger with some relief.

Your Auntie should just keep the letter among her son's Army records and things and not worry another minute about it. She is not responsible for this debt at all..............she gave her Son who had given the ultimate sacrifice for his nation!

Blessings to you and your family and again, I'm sorry for your loss.

Write to them it is the Defense Finance Accounting Service. Tell them he was wearing the items when he died and to contact the military mortician who took possession of his body and removed his clothing for burial. If they don't respond to that get an attorney to look into the facts of the case. If you can't afford an attorney, legal aid society is free.
I am sorry for your loss. For encouragement, listen to ttb.org.
