I was walking with my friends today and the topic of religion came up (we go to a catholic school) and the evolution of the earth. as the conversation got more deep, i said that I don't believe in the bible. they looked shocked and got pretty upset... thanks goodness we shifted to a different topic, but still, I feel upset. why can't people just accept everyone for who they are? why do they care so much on what i believe? can't we just respect people for their views? and are you like this?

Because most people are scared. The bible has been translated many times. I respect my beliefs and others. People should respect each others views. Just because you go to Catholic school and dont believe in the bible doesnt make you a bad person. Growing is good. Learning is even better.

Well, I'd assume most people attending a private, Christian school view the Bible as fairly important. I'm not surprise that your friends were shocked.
You are surprised?
Why do others care so much about what you believe? Why do you care that they were shocked? You, like they, care about each others views.

I've known some people like that. It sucks that some people judge you just for what you believe in and not you as a person. I accept everyone, well not stupid people who judgeothers.I feel as though everyone has a right to believe what they want to but not to push those believes on other people. And no, some people will probably never be able to respect those who don't believe in what they want them to.

if i went to a catholic school and a person at that school(who would probably be catholic) said they didn't believe the bible, that would be quite the curveball.
that's like being on a swimteam and telling your teammate "i can't swim" or "i don't believe in completive swimming"
it's not so much "respect" as it is "you go to a catholic school and don't believe the bible?"

I am a christian and my bestfriend is a believer but she has not been saved. We got into a similar conversation the other day. I care in what she believes because of what I believe (if that makes since) I believe that you must be saved and baptised in order to go to Heaven. And I care about her beliefs because I do not want her to be lost.

The main message of the Bible is redemption of man through faith in Jesus Christ.
If you don't believe the Bible, then you are not a Christian. Probably that is why your friends reacted the way they did. It is usually "assumed" the kids that go to Catholic Schools are Christians.

Since you're going to a Catholic school, I can see why they were surprised. What don't you believe about the bible? Do you not believe in the Creation stories of Adam and Eve as being true and literal? I don't believe that, either, but that doesn't mean I don't believe that the bible isn't the inspired word of God.

I had a similar experience.
I too was brought up as a catholic, and when I told my mum that I didn't believe, she went ape-sh*t and never forgave me.
An atheist
And to the person who asked why you are going to a catholic school - that's because when you are under age you don't get to choose what school you go to, your parents do.

If you don't believe in the Bible, why are you wasting your money attending a Catholic school? Public school is absolutely free!
