I have actually thought of this on and off button thing for far too long and I have come to the conclusion that it is a bit of both depending on many variables.
For example, if it is no and in the book then the button is an off button for the no if the question is "can I?"
On the other hand, if the question is not legislated in the Bible and not legislated in the doctrine of the Third Church of Main Street, then the answer is either no, yes or the middle or neutral position in a three position switch.
For those who cannot conceptualize of the three position switch, it has to be either or but not the third.
Lately I have been worrying that there may be a more sophisticated series of switches that respond to a multitude of variables that only God can manipulate with any degree of skill.
That, I believe, is the truth, as revealed to me.
