No.
It's a prophecy.
God here is speaking to the serpent, indwelt by Satan, who tempted Eve to eat the fruit God forbade them to eat.
So "you" in this passage is the serpent. Eve is "the woman".
"your offspring" was revealed to us by Jesus in John 8:44:
"Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it." (KJV)
"her offspring" does not refer to all people descended from Eve. We know this because in the next sentence, the pronoun referring back to "her seed" is the masculine singular "he". It can only be a reference to the prophecied messian who will "crush" the serpent's "head".
Those who Jesus identified as the "offspring" of the serpent are the ones who are responsible for crucifying Jesus as this prophecy predicts. The part of Jesus that walked the earth is referred to as "his heel". His earthly body.
Because Jesus' father was God, death couldn't hold him. That half of Jesus that is God (his "head") couldn't be killed.
The day will come when the "head" of the serpent (Satan, or the devil) will be crushed when Jesus returns to earth 11 years from now in 2018.
But don't think you have 11 years. The fur begins to fly when the seven trumpets begins.

I probably don't have to tell you that it is about Jesus and Satan do I. I believe you know that. When Jesus Rose from the Grave, he crushed satans head. My question for you is have you ever been born again. Have you given your life to Jesus Christ. Do you admit that you are a sinner. Have you been saved?? If not I will give you here a sinners Prayer. If you are to accept Jesus just Pray believing and Christ will send his comforter, the Holy Ghost upon you, a make you a child of the Great KIng, Dear Jesus, I believe you are the son of God, I believe you came to earth to die on a cross for me to be a perfect sacrifice for my sins and rose from the grave the third day, I know and confess that I am a sinner in need of your salvation. I ask you to come into my heart now and save me, in Jesus name I Pray, Amen... If you just Prayed that Pray with a sincere heart you are now saved and Jesus lives inside your heart. it's interpreted 2 ways.
1. as a messianic property(the offspring will crush the devil, some translations have "and you will lie in wait for his heel")
2. it just means snakes and people won't get along.

That was the first Messianic prophecy. God told Satan that He would put enmity, or an enemy, between her seed (Eve) and his (Satan). "He will crush your head" foretells of Jesus' eternal victory over Satan. "And you will strike his heel" foretells the crucifixion.

You don't say! How could a story involving a talking snake not be meant to be taken literally?
