I believe we get a lot of input from the spiritual realm. so many of the voices are trying to sound like God, but are easily defeated when illuminated by the word of God.
So now here we are with one or two thoughts about a person or a situation and we wonder what to do.
I am blessed to have a wife that is just saturated with the gift of mercy, (she needs it to put up with a husband like me) but regardless I always share these thoughts with her,and I value her advise she gives, I can rest assured if she agrees it a good word, and if not I hold on to it and I pray the Lord would reveal more of the message or give a confirmation.
I then look for two things other Christians that I am close to that can bear witness of the knowledge I have, and I look for an anchor in the word that will support the thought.
Almost always for me word from God is given and I can usually discern with in a day or two whether or not to share it.
I especially am partial to the "testing or every spirit" as the test of the Lordship of Jesus has always overcome a possible spiritual power or principality trying to deceive me.
hope this helps and God Bless

I am very careful in how I handle the information. If the Lord reveals something to me about someone and I feel that in my spirit that person needs to know, I will let that person know but not in a way that will hurt the person. For instance, let's say someone is making a bad choice, I will kind of steer then in the right direction by offering another alternative, rather than saying "you're making a bad choice". Also, it really depends on the individual. Sometimes I can come right out and upright and other times, you have to know when to be discreet about it.

Everyone who is a believer should have the gift of knowledge it comes with the Holy Spirit..
I know I get words for people if thats what you mean..I could never have even spoke to the person before and some how the Lord will show me or give me something to tell them and I use to get scared to say those things but I don't now,I see how it changes peoples lifes..So I quickly say what I see or am thinking..

Sounds like you are becoming somewhat established in the Present moment. Knowledge, as it is spoken of in the eastern traditions, is not what you have compiled from learning. This knowledge actually blocks true Knowing because you must "think" to know. Fully Present in the NOW every thing that IS happening can be Known spontaneously, as in Realization, Intuition and so forth. If you do not know do not "think" to know but become Still and Present, where Knowing is possible.

Everyone has knowledge , some much more than others . I've been gathering knowledge all of my life ( I'm 87 ) and will never stop . All knowledge does not have to be put to use. but it's nice to have when it's needed .
Sorry , I am not in communiction with the " Lord " .

Not often. (should I laugh at myself for that?)
Discernment...YES!
EDIT:
Gifts are today!
The word of God should always have the final say in the life of a believer.
Many have gone to churches and heard a watered down gospel message preached to them from the pulpit. Many have believed a lie from those who have placed themselves in leadership positions.
I believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for the church today. We would be a powerless church if the gifts were not in operation. The Lord Jesus himself operated in the gifts of the Holy Spirit on a regular basis. Everywhere He went, He performed healings and miracles. We must follow in the footsteps of our Lord and become more like Him.
Why would you deny any Gift given by God? I give my life to the potter's hand.

Yes I have that gift... I am patient and wait for the knowledge of what to do with the knowledge. Allowing the present moment to unfold around me, I become aware of where and when to share what is known.

God may lend his holy spirit to help those gain accurate Bible truths, accurate knowledge. He may also lend his holy spirit to those teaching others about truthful Bible standards while studying with others who want to obtain accurate knowledge.
When praying one should always pray for the holy spirit to be with them in all things esp. before they read the Bible or when they are listening to a speech or talk at the congregation. One should pray for the holy spirit to be with them through all things in life.
Leviticus 19:26
“‘YOU must eat nothing along with blood. “‘YOU must not look for omens, and YOU must not practice magic".
Deuteronomy 18: 10 - 12
There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. For everybody doing these things is something detestable to God.

If you are being bombarded with information without understanding what to do with it, I would be very suspicious of the source of that info. Anytime the Holy Spirit gives me insights there is no doubt about what to do with it.
