It's that kind that I find confusing.

God creates flawed humans and so he sacrificed himself to himself to make up for it?

A couple of wrong assumptions stated here my friend. First, man has always wanted "Proof"! U see it here all the time. God made the First Sacrifice after A.&E. sinned by killing animals to clothe A.&E., making a statement that God is able to & will cover mankind's sins through something that man can do after he sins, animal sacrifice. Do to mans sinful nature this form of Sacrifice didn't cover mankind for ever like Christs Final Perfect Sacrifice on the cross did. Second, Ur statement of "Original Sin being so foreign and that is why it has never been mentioned of Gods prophets for thousands of years" is SOOOOOOO WRONG!!! When the rest of Israel (Priesthood included) was off track, the Prophets were sent to Convict Israel of the "Hardness of their Hearts", that the "Sin Dwelling In Them" (Original Sin) had taken over their lives !!! Best get a better Study Guide such as Halleys Bible Handbook, it will make it clear for U. John

Yes, it is quite easy to understand. God is just and he gives laws. If the law is disobeyed, there is a punishment, otherwise the laws and God himself would be meaningless and without purpose.

Now if God gave a law and it is broken and there must be a punishment, wouldn't it be nice if there was a way you didn't have to suffer it? Someone paid the price for you, took your punishment, but it is not free, you have to do your part as well, accept it and appreciate it. Otherwise, if you do not accept that he paid the price for your sins, then you will.

I didn't read the other question but I can certainly see where the concept of needing a sacrifice for forgiveness is troubling. Let me frame it this way and see if it makes any sense. If I committed a crime against you, could you forgive me? I am certain you could find it in your heart to show forgiveness, but that doesn't change the reality that I would still have to pay for my crime in order for justice to be done. There is a law bigger then you, that has to be upheld if there is to be any order, justice or equity in the universe. God's moral law has to be upheld and he can't simply "let people get away with murder." there has to be a punishment. Where mercy is shown is in His electing to pay the punishment for our crime.
Maybe my explanation just opens the door for more questions, but it is a simplified response in a limited forum.

He didn't NEED the sacrifice, but the people who were asking forgiveness needed to do something they understood for their forgiveness. God's cool that way. He doesn't need anything, but he knows we do and so it allows some to think that HE'S the one in need when really he "requires" things like sacrifices to help those who ask.

That was the view of a very primative people, who understood God from their unique perspective and culture.

It's unfortunate that there is still a rather large contingent of people, called fundamentalists, who still would like to believe that.

But God sent His son to become human so that we could share in God's divinity. Did He have to die on a cross? Maybe the only reason it seemed inevitable was because Jesus spoke the truth to the fundamentalists of His day, and that infuriated them to the point where they plotted His death.

Blood sacrifice wasn't necessary -- just inevitable. Regardless, the fact that He became human and suffered everything we experience (and then some) is what redeemed us. Not the spilling of His blood itself.

The idea of killing someone innocent to alleviate the sins of the guilty makes no sense at all. It's as if god has to be paid, and doesn't care how. That's sounds more like a mafia kingpin than anything worthy of being called a god.

To quote Jane from the BBC program Coupling, "God is a made-up person. He's not REAL." Anyone who is willing to put their hopes and fears into an imaginary, made-up being, especially one that "tells" them to sacrifice their child (i.e., Abraham & Isaac) so that the imaginary being will "love" them needs a psychiatrist. God is made-up to excuse the horrible behavior of people who want to hurt other people. Anyone who is different is subject to "divine" wrath, carried out of course, by the TRUE BELIEVERS. Believing in god is a SICKNESS. Look at all the alcoholics and other drug abusers who suddenly latch onto god when they get clean. They need an addiction, so after giving up substances, they become addicted to god. Use your OWN mind and heart to determine what is right.

Do you know him? What is impotent? God is not a sign of weakness, man is. God gave a blood sacifice as a demonstration to man. God said I can show you better than I can tell you. God forgives.Yet man continued to sin. Jesus shed his blood as and final atonement for sin. We need know more blood of goats, sheep or bulls. No more wheat and barley offerings. No more Priest coming into God in our behalf. Jesus demonstrated the work of the Holyspirit. God's spirit lifted Jesus up from the grave. It was preplanned. Isaiah 53. God showed mans weakness (self) he though it was all about him. But it is all about God.

Satan had man by the throat. God loosened his grip! Daniel chapter 12.

Read some history. All earthly gods have been sacrificed since the beginning of time. Sacrifice is a tried and true method of transmitting/transmuting.

Not to mention...do you really think there'd be so many people worshipping someone who lived to a ripe old age, becoming incontinent and senile? Not likely.
