In earlier eras, atheists were , mistrusted by the mainstream. few who dared to push their beliefs on society, like Madalyn Murray O'Hair, were regarded as malevolent kooks.. Today, Hitchens' New York Times bestseller, which has dominated the nonfiction charts for months, boldly condemns religion – including Christianity – as "violent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism, tribalism, and bigotry, invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry, contemptuous of women and coercive toward children
Dawkins, the Oxford scientist who wrote "The God Delusion," is even selling young people "Scarlet Letter" tee-shirts with a giant "A" – for "atheist" – on his website (and bumper stickers too). Somehow, atheism – just like homosexuality, which used to be considered shameful and something to hide – is now becoming hip, sophisticated, enlightened, even a badge of honor.

Atheistic philosophy is already mainstream in western Europe with no cataclysmic effect and the rise of it here can only be thought of as progress. Modern humanity is finally beginning to realize that the harms religious dogma brings to society no longer justifies whatever "good" may come of it. If not for the rise of Christianity in the ancient world and the resulting closing of the mind, humanity would have advanced much faster then we have and that can't be ignored. The great discoveries of the ancient greeks and early pagan philosophers had us well on the way to understanding the real nature of the world and universe until all such progress was deemed heretical by the the church for almost 2000 years. Another, probably more passionate, reason for the rise of atheism is sheer survival instinct. When the western religions were at the height of their power and destructiveness, ie the inquisitions and crusades, man kind did not yet have the ability to perpetrate mass destruction. But the rise of radical Islam is at a time when there are weapons which can bring the end of man kind as we know it. For the first time in history letting faith rule over reason can provide the means of our total self destruction.

Just a few days ago I watched an old 1950s era clip of Liberace interviewing with CBS and when asked whether he had any thoughts about marriage he replied, "I want to someday find the perfect mate and settle down to what I hope will be a marriage that will be blessed by faith and will be a lasting union." President Dwight Eisenhower in his farewell address to the nation said, "You and I, my fellow citizens, need to be strong in our faith that all nations, under God, will reach the goal of peace with justice." Both of these are prime examples of how in decades past, having some sort of moral and religious outlook was considered not only acceptable but crucial in appealing to the general populace. I say "religion" because people weren't necessarily true believers in the things they professed, but nonetheless projected the image of being religious because it was how many of them were raised.

During the 1960s the counterculture movement is primarily what shattered the mold on conservative American traditions and lowered the threshold to things like the use of profanity in public, immodest styles of clothing, homosexuality, divorce, premarital sex, drug use, occultism, atheism, et cetera. What we see today is essentially the evolution of what happened back then.

I think many people are atheists today not so much because they "don't believe that God exists as Christians have portrayed Him" but rather because they "believe that it's fashionable to deny God" - just like saying "save the whales, protect the environment, pull out of Iraq, feed the children" and so forth. They don't really believe what they're saying, but say it because they believe it's socially acceptable. But there are, however, people who truly do resist the concept that there is a God, and in the case of those individuals, it's not a matter of them having no scientific proof of a Divine Being so much as it is vehemently resisting personal accountability. After all, "if" God exists, then it implies that there has to be a higher standard or protocol for living, and failure to meet that protocol would result in judgment from God. The person who insists on denying God does so because they want to create free license to do as they please without the spiritual or moral checks and balances that intellectually acknowledging God exists encumbers upon the conscience.

Isaiah prophesied "the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people" (Isaiah 60:2 KJV). Paul prophesied "evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived" (2 Timothy 3:13 NIV). People choose to be evil and stay evil because they desire the darkness over the light - that is what atheism is rooted in.

u.s. is declining basically considering that's being deindustrialised. As all properly paid production and technological paintings is being exported in a foreign country. u.s. is being divided into the rich economic training, who make investments their money globally and something who're in low paid, low experienced service paintings. the main considerable reason of it somewhat is the completely unregulated economic laissez faire economic equipment of the final 30 years. it is somewhat not an remoted case. precisely a similar element got here approximately to Britain to a lesser volume from 1875 to 1914. Britain's business base withered away because of the fact the rich disregarded to take a place in British industry which began to lose out to the transforming into powers of u.s. and Germany who the two secure their community production bases with the aid of fee lists and direct government intervention. additionally it does not help that the main considerable burden of taxes fall on the midsection training and the adverse because of the fact the rich steer away from their honest share via exporting their earnings off shore. to declare that something as precis and peripheral as atheism could reason the decline of a united states and economic equipment is the two very stupid or very cheating

God has told us many times in the Bible not to be judgemental. I believe in god but refuse to judge anyone who does not. Many of these atheists have opened our eyes to issues in the bible and helped us to understand many of gods writings. The many religions that believe in god have interpreted the Bible to support their beliefs, it has been refreshing to have a nonbeliever's viewpoint of god and the Bible.

What christian religion has the true teaching, None
What christian religion has shown abuse towards children and women and hypocracy in all their teachings, all of them
Does god tell us in the Bible what specific religion to follow today, no

My belief is what I read directly in the bible and I don't need any religion to tell me how to believe. If someone that believes in Atheism tells me something about the Bible that I think makes sense, it only makes me a more informed and better person. We are all humans, so christian or non christian we all are sinful. Through my christian life I've seene christians who say they believe that Jesus died for their sins, but they still sin - how hypocritic is that.

FALSE TEACHING what? People are born with no beliefs everyday lol! Atheism isn't taught, everyone is born one, it just takes more time for delusional people to embrace it.

"Somehow, atheism – just like homosexuality, which used to be considered shameful and something to hide – is now becoming hip, sophisticated, enlightened, even a badge of honor." - seriously, whats your problem? people have freedom from religion. Why do you have to act so superior to anyone else who doesn't share your beliefs? people have the freedom to believe whatever they want, just don't go forcing it on others.

I agree with everything you said. The Bible tells us that in the end times, good will be considered bad and bad will be good.

We're there. Only those who are fools don't see it.

There is a MASSIVE social experiment going on in the world. Northern Europe has already seen it's effects. That is homosexual "marriage."

This has caused many to no longer regard marriage as sacred and 80% of the children being born there are born OUT OF WEDLOCK. Most only have one parent.

THAT is the result of what sin does to mankind.

It's a beautiful thing: humans are evolving before our eyes! We are no longer living in fear and repression from the church.

Instead, we are exploring our innate spirituality and discovering that what mankind has searched for in religion has been within us all along. This has led to people who are much more spiritual and in touch with life, truth, and god because they don't just blindly do what they are told by the church.
