Contact a reputable paranormal society. TAPS and all of their affiliates are pretty much on the up and up and usually no when something is out of their league. From what I have learned from Jason at TAPS there are too may frauds out there claiming to be psychics, so generaly don;t trust the. Contact taps.com and ask for help. One of the moderators will guide you to a good group in your area. They will also help you find the religious help you may need be it a catholic priest or a christian pastor who has knowledge of exorcisms. One answer above is very on tract. There are to basic "haunters: 1)ghosts - lost souls who use to be human although not all are good souls and 2) Demons -- Demons have never been human and are always on the side of Satan. They can possess and do harm. Do no communicate with spirits for that can allow the spirits into you and if it is a demon, possessions occurs. Don't use Ouija boards, don;t use seances, don't communicate outside mundane questions of are you present and can you make a sound? Sounds like you might be talking about an Inhuman Spirit, but there are many different kinds of hauntings. You might want to read up on the kinds of ghosts and spirits.

First off get some dried up white sage, light it like your lighting a joint, then wave the smoke all around you, and say a little blessing, or prayer(whatever you beleive in), then take the sage, and put it in every corner and crevesce of your house you think the ghost might hide in. Dried up white sage is great for clearing up negative energies, and it kind of works like holy water.
Also, get quartz crystal, they aren't too expensive, and leave them by the corners of your door in your house. This also stops any negative energies from getting in.
Spirits like this come because you invite them in. Tell the spirit he's not welcome here everyday, and he'll eventually get the hint.
Also, I would highly consider googling "Protection spells," and find the one that's right for you. Just remember he can't harm you. Blessed be.
